Mobil 1 High Mileage + Marvel Mystery Oil
So it has been 3 months since I last changed my oil, and I decided it would be good to change it now before it gets really cold out. So today I went out and I picked up some oil.
Last oil change, I put in Castrol GTX High Mileage, 5W-30, into my 98 Mustang GT. This time I picked up Mobil 1 High Mileage, also 5W-30.
I also bought a Purolator PureOne filter, I am a big fan or Purolator Filters.
So I am wondering about a few things:
1.) Is it a good or bad thing that I am going to switch to Synthetic?
2.)What is the difference between the Mobil 1 High Mileage and the regular Mobil 1?
3.)I also bought Marvel Mystery Oil. It recommends that I put 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and then one quart of MMO. Should I do this to help clean out the engine a bit, or should I just see how the car handles the synthetic first?
4.)Is 5W-30 a good viscosity, especially for the winter?

I cant answer all your questions but I will say I only use 5w-30 in mobile 1 full synthetic in all my cars. I read that 5w-30 allows for an easier startup in colder climates. I've used this oil in vehicles with over 100K miles and basically new. I dont think it matters when you start using it. Hope this helps some.

How much mileage do you have?
I don't think it is a good idea to keep switching from regular motor oil
to synthetic motor oil.You need to choose witch motor oil you want to
use and keep using it.Personally I would rather use Mobil 1 because it
protects better and you can get a great price on it at Walmart.
I've been using 10W30 Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil since the day I bought
my mustang 13 years ago and I never had a problem using it.
The Purolator Pure One oil filters are a good quality oil filter to use since
Purolator uses synthetic media in that oil filter.The Ford Motorcraft oil filter
was designed just for our cars and it has the best design drainback valve
for our cars.The only oil filter I have used in my mustang is a Ford Motorcraft
oil filter and they work great.You should be fine using a 5W30 or 10W30
motor oil.The Marval Mystery Oil is snake oil witch is garbage take it back
and try to get your money back.The only additive I ever used that actually
worked is the Chevron fuel injector cleaner and fuel system cleaner.

1. Depends on how often you change your oil. If you still go buy the 3 month, 3000 mile rule. Just find the cheapest oil you can find and use that.
2. Seal conditioners and swellers, and more clean additives.
3. You can if you want to, it should help with cleaning. Most people use it at the end of an oil change. Add it around 500 - 1000 miles before changing the oil. Go over to bobistheoilguy.com if you want to see peoples experiences with it.

My car has about 127k miles on it, so I guess the high mileage would be good for my car. I just wasnt sure if the high mileage really does anything.
And thanks for the replies, I decided the stuff I bought is fine, I am putting it in today.
As far as the MMO goes, it looks like putting it in your fuel line is the best option, so I am going to only add it to the gas for now, and see how the car handles synthetic.

I don't know about you, but I would select the build quality of the filter on the left before I would choose the filter on the right. No comparison of the two. For a cheap filter, the FoMoCo has a lot of bang for the buck, but also a lot to be desired in other top tier filters like the AMSOIL Ea011 it's compared too in the picture above. You commented about the "anti-drain back" valve, well....AMSOIL's is superior in all tests, and very much so in the visual one.
AMSOIL EaO Filters
This high mileage oils in Mobil 1 are also API SL formulated. This means they will have higher amounts of ZDDP (anti-wear additive).
