Personally for the old pushrods I would prefer to run a 10w30 or 10w40 in summer months.

and something with high ZDDP. Anything API SN or SM is not the best choice IMO.

Isn't that their best oil? why would it need additives added to it?

Yes, there is. I would use Red Line Break in additive if someone insisted to use an engine lubricant with lower amounts with ZDDP. Add 1 ounce per quart.

Although, I don't think buying an engine lubricant that isn't formulated properly the first time is the best way to go. If you have to add something to the oil to make it proper for the application, you chose the wrong oil. Why not buy something that is already up to par?

Amsoil 10W-30

Amsoil 10W-40

Amsoil EaO15 oil filter

Shady, your sarcasm is amusing. What can I say, they have to make the oil conform to API SN standards, and we both know that forces them to limit ZDDP (primary anti-wear additives).

I love the skeptics who say, "The big oil companies say Amsoil is a few formulations behind in technology. That's why I choose Mobil 1." The truth is, they bought the inferior lubricant thinking the "new" way was the better way. Go thank a tree hugger and the global warming nut swingers for your API SN and SM degraded engine lubricants.

My '94 calls for 10W-30, but last fall I started running 5W-30 and plan on sticking with it. Car has over 170K on it, and consumption is minimal on Havoline conventional. Depending on driving conditons, I would run a quality dino oil for 3K mile or 6 month changes, but that's just me.
