Default 2013 V6 Oil Life and Chang

Hello all.

I have a quick question...

In the cars menu there is a section called Oil Life, but what does this mean exactly?
I got the car new, and it has now been 3 1/2 months of ownership and ~4k miles, and the car says that the oil life is ~60%.

Does this show/say when you should get your oil changed, or something different?

Also, how often would you recommend changing the oil and what type of oil would you recommend?
I drive pretty hard, if that changes anything...

Thanks

Well the oil life is how much you computer is calculating on how you drive the car. You said it was a fairly new car. So are you still on the first oil change. if so i would run that oil to 5k and change it. That is break in oil.
After the 5k i change my oil in my ls1 every 3500 miles. And i started running full synthetic ever since that 1st change. At 62000 miles i modded my engine, and at 100000 miles i changed from mobil 1 10-40 full synthetic, to royal purple 20-50 full race oil. i now have 115000 miles on it and it see's 7000 rpm every time i take it out. How well you engine will last depends on how well it is maintained. good luck.

Yea the car is only 4 months old.
(However it also in an accident where it went over a curb sliding sideways. (Long story...)) (basically no visual damage, but the rear end (axel, etc) has to all be replaced)

(Full story at: http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/f99/t330031/)

Thanks for the info on the oil changes.
I will wait then, UNLESS you think that being an accident and having this kind of work done, would change the need. (I have no reason to know/think it would change anything, but thought I would ask)

Just checked and my milage is at: 4929. So I guess once its finished at the shop I will be about ready to do a change.

I will go the full synthetic route, even though its more expensive, as it will be worth it in the long run.

You said you did some engine modifications, can I ask what mods you did?

Thanks

any GF-5 oil with the proper weight will do fine.

I personally run AMSOIL for 10k mile intervals with there oil filter. The only reason I run AMSOIL over any other is because the NOACK (basically how long the oil stays consistent throughout its life) is better than any synthetic.
