Really, though, it only makes sense to put greater down force on something that goes so fast for so long. Just look at F1, imagine those machines without all that down force -- there would definetely be more accidents on the track.

P.S....If the cars are going to look like that, nascar should let Ford run the 5.0 Cammer Mustang (i'm not sure exactly the name) but use 351ci. lol

it's all about the cash!!!!
nascar does'nt make a dime off the current spoiler/valance design.
they dictate who you get the material from (Milliken composites.) to make the "splitter " out of, aswell they tell you who to buy the wing from. (crawford components). doing it this way is called kick backs........ or nascar... which ever you like.

Trust me the new COT is *** ugly my bro works for the factory Toyota team and has shown me the car, the ugliest race car ive ever seen, it looks like a kindergardner designed it. Yes it maybe safer and thats great but NASCAR could have improved saftey on the current cars and still had them look nice

I say good for them. Although it may look more "rice" which is a word I hate by the way, wings are actually very very functional on track and in the case of NASCAR they will improve the safety on track by preventing accidents. Last I checked, NASCAR wasn't a car show, so I am all for the change. I rock a large wing on my race or "rice" car too because of the downforce it provides.
