Default Any Ideas for Good Brake Pads for Tracking?

Hey guys,

I'm looking for some input from those of you with experience in tracking/HPDE events/autoxing on the best brake pads that are still affordable (under $120 for front pair).

This is what I'm looking for in the pads:

High Max Operating Temperature
Easy on the rotors
Consistent torque response
Good hot bite
And long life (to last me at least two seasons ~ 6-8 HPDE events)

Brake dust and noise are no problem to me, as I'll only use these pads for the track.

What would you guys suggest?

Ps. I own a 1999 3.8L mustang (I know it's slow LOL)

Thank you! :-)

I ran Hawk HP+ on my car at Sebring last year and left them on the car for a full year since then. They dust a lot, but they work really well.

Running PFC 07 compound on front and 06 compound on rear
with Brembo front brakes
Running four 30 minute track sessions per day.
Was getting two days out of stock and now have three days on PFC with at least one day left (maybe more)

I think Hawk HT10's might work for what the OP is looking for. I run HT10's on higher speed tracks where brake temps increase. HT10's are meant for higher temps than HP+'s. HP+'s are good for up-to advance-intermediates on "slower", more technical tracks IMO. Examples of how I see it:

HT10 --> VIR
HP+ --> Summit Point Shenandoah Circuit

Check my vid channel. Unfortunately, I only have vids of the Shenandoah circuit...but it's my fav track. I run HP+'s almost exclusively here, but am thinking about looking into another pad since I'm getting better and better here.

After more than a dozen track days and alternating between HP+'s and HT10's depending on how funny I'm feeling, I can say they don't kill rotors and both have long shelf life. Shoot, there was even a period where I just didn't feel like taking them off after a couple of events and put miles on them street driving and including some road trips. Wouldn't recommend that, but just saying.

They both have good hot bite, but the HT10's operate in a higher temp range.

Hope this helps the OP.

Hey guys!

I seem to have forgotten to close this thread!

I searched for HT10's but they're almost impossible to find! Where did you get your's from?? I'll check the video for sure though!

Anyways, I ended up getting Hawk Blue 9012's for the fronts and stock pads on the back. They were AMAZING. They were bubbling by the end of the second 30 min session (I think I overooked them lol). My rotors are now half gone!

Here's a vid of me failing to listen to my instructor Being a self learner seemed to get on his nerves, but his teaching was amazing!

Thank you guys for all your input! I think I'm going to play around with different pads - I'll just wait til this one finishes then look for another. Greatly appreciate the help!

I'm a big fan of Performance Friction Brakes. Don't know if they'll have pads for your standard 1998 Mustang caliper, but I know they do 2-piece 13"/330mm rotors and pads for the Cobra models.
