Default Intake air temps

What kind of intake temps are you guys seeing? Before the intercooler I was hitting 190ish on a 90-95 degree day. This was before my intercooler on 8psi boost. My car was pulling timing baaaad and the car was slower than stock when the temps got up there. My tuner said this was way to hot and that's why it was pulling so much timing but I've heard otherwise from different sources. Any opinions?

if the tune was good, it shouldnt have pulled that much timing when it got hot. when i had a vortech, i would see intake temps of 190* all the time when driving around town and i never had any issues with the car loosing tons of power. its all in the tune. now with the turbo setup and a IC, air temps are just above ambient when crusing around.

I believe around 180 it starts pulling timing, don't quote me on that exact degree. Last I'm fairly certain it pulls 6 degrees at wot & around 2 degrees while cruising at those temperatures & above. Not sure if that was the case with '96 or not. I believe that was the table for 87-95, but I don't see why they would change that much in '96. I'm sure I could probably find the information on it. I never saw '96+'s ect/act tables.

It doesn't make sense to me. There's plenty of people running a regular 8psi Vortech without an intercooler that don't have this problem. I could understand if I was pushing 12+psi, but at just 8 it shouldn't be that bad. The car was literally way slower than stock. I dunno I was just wondering.

You said you were seeing 190* before the intercooler; is your iat sensor located before the intercooler or after the intercooler?

Vortech said to put it right after the mass air meter, before the supercharger. That didn't make sense to me so I put it on the discharge tube after the supercharger. At the time I didn't have an intercooler at all. So I bought an intercooler and the iat sensor is still in the same location (after both the supercharger and intercooler). It reads accurate to the actual air temperature that goes into the engine. It reads fine now that I added the intercooler (lost 2lbs), but I've been told that I don't need an intercooler if I'm only pushing 8lbs of boost and it's a waste of money.

Ah, so the inlet temps are cooler now that the intercooler is on, correct? So you were just having trouble with it before the intercooler install? I'm going to agree with lucky13 on the reasoning behind it being slower. I think it was a bad tune if it was pulling that much timing, but all the same I haven't tuned a stock eec so I don't know what's possible & not possible with it. I know vortech (& a few others) want you to keep the iat before the supercharger to keep it from pulling timing, but that's not the best idea.
