Downpipe Burning Clutch Cable?
 

I was wondering if any one can offer some advice. I have an 88 Ford Mustang GT With a 89 Single Turbo Engine. The engine is a 5.0 Stock block ETC ETC. The problem I am having is the car was built built in a Auto car and now has been swapped to the 88 which is a 5 speed and since being swapped has burnt two clutch cables and burnt two clutches. Could the heat from the downpipe be causing this problem? And would heat wrapping the down pipe help? . I have heard that when you heat wrap a downpipe it can cause rust. If anyone can set me off in the right direction it will be great

use fyr-sleeve on the clutch cable, and you still might have to replace the cable every year or two

i used to burn on my headers all the time in my '89, and yes the burned cable can contribute to premature clutch failure because when the sheath melts into the cable....you might not be engaging all the way after letting go of the pedal. i did that too.

Thanks Bro, but The Sleeve is tht little plastic thingy over the cable right?. Im Sure it burnt right through tht too.. I recently ordered a new cable from summitracing I might give the heat wrap a try. One more quick question.. Do you think because i have a stage 2 clutch im putting too much pressure on the cable on top the heat?

no i dont... but dont wrap the exhaust.... sleeve the clutch cable with "fire-sleeve"

oo yes... i think my problems have been solved lol.. thank you bro.. goinq to try this.. But i already have heat wrap.. do you think if i heat wrap my clutch cable if it would work any good?

sure...but a serious pain in tha a$$

fiberglass wrap right ??? it'll insulate and help protect. same thing but in a roll...rather than a sleeve. i wanna say the 5/8" sleeve will cover the cable if you use it....pop it at the clutch fork and run it up... then back on

Lol I have some DEI titanium header exhaust wrap.. Im goinq with both im wrapping the pipes, and buying a fire sleeve for the cable.. then i have to fix a miss... already figured out what it is though spark plugs are bad will change them when i pull out the downpipe so ill have some clearance, then its time for a tune.. Ill let you know how it goes and hopefully have a Vid. Thanks again for the help bro
