Default Shorties/Long X-Pipe vs. Long Tubes/Shorty X-Pipe

On a mostly stock 302/5.0 engine, is there any benefit of going with long tube headers & short x-pipe over shorty headers & long x-pipe?

I've had both combinations in past cars, just looking for some feedback from others' experiences regarding performance. Thanks!

Yep, new to the forum - gotta start somewhere right? Can you share a link to where I'd have better luck w/ this topic?

Wrong thread, sir.

I think you meant that comment to go in this Pipes, Boost & Juice thread, which is about 4.10 gearing, no?

cook - the important part of an "X" is where the two banks are briefly merged. Whatever else is included is just exhaust piping. Other than whatever the effect X-pipe location has on torque/power, which if you were trying to optimize you'd probably have to test and tune for anyway.

Thanks for the thoughts Norm. The thought behind the question is if I'm only making exhaust mods right now to pass emissions testing (adding cats), I only need to replace the cat-less x-pipe. But, if I'm looking at make significant mods in the future, I was considering going with full-length headers so I don't end up having to buy another [short] x-pipe later on.

Anyway, it's not an issue any longer at this point. I've had the long tubes but there were some fitment issues, so to make my life simpler, I'm just sending it all back and getting a long catted x-pipe and slapping the stock headers back on. I'd rather drive and enjoy the car right now than have it jacked up in the garage for months! On past mustangs I've had, this was never an issue...but there were more mods involved then, so the long tubes were much more desired...
