Unhappy Methanol advice

Hi, I bought the stage II snow performance meth kit for my 99 GT. I installed it right in front of the throttle blade and the kit works fine. I fill it with the 49/51 "boost juice" mix.

I had it on the dyno to tune it for meth and the car did 365 rwhp on motor and 351 rwhp on the meth mix. The timing was added in to compensate but the motor just didn't seem to react to it positively. The A/F ratios were a flat 12.0 with and without the meth. I don't want to have to uninstall and try to sell the kit on ebay... I spent time and money and I'd like to see a gain from it. I have read that pure meth will warrant better results. Should I ditch the mix and go for the 99% solution?

Major Mods: Saleen Series IV SC, 8.23:1 CR (forged bottom end), running approx. 8 psi., TF heads and blower cams, built 4R70W tranny (automatic).

Who is doing the tuning? When my car is WOT on 50/50 meth I'm seeing 11.5 on my wideband.

Also, over jetting/under jetting will completely make or break your setup. What ML nozzle are you running? Also, what MAF/IAT sensor and where are they located?

Sunshine in Killeen is doing the tune. Through 3 different tuners have all gotten 12.0 a/f ratio. Unless those 3 people located at different parts of the country are all wrong, it's probably normal for my car. I'm using the #5 nozzle on Snow's kit which might be 375 ml (dont remember the ml dead on). Thats what their instruction manual suggested I use for my power range (350-450 rwhp). I'm using the stock MAF with a Mafia (its not pegging either). The intake tube goes: Air filter, MAF, IAT, Meth injection, Throttle body. Thanks for your input.

Wasn't trying to be a smartass with your tuners, but go on corral where you'll have some big hitters with meth that run 8-9 sec ET's and 800+rwhp and look what their A/F is at, just a quick search of one post:

http://forums.corral.net/forums/supe...fuel-meth.html

Also, you should be running your IAT AFTER your meth nozzle as a failsafe...if your meth doesnt spray when it should the IAT will pull timing. I would recommend a Lightning IAT as well.

Ok, this is meant to help anyone out with a similar setup (to avoid wasting money down the road). Reference some information above where applicable.

I lost power with the 50/50 meth water mixture (roughly 15 rwhp). I drained out my 50/50 and put in pure meth and gained 15 rwhp (the day I went in I did 370 rwhp on motor and 385 rwhp on meth). The dyno doesn't lie. I have yet to see hard evidence that the 50/50 mix actually contributes to power gains - I have seen instances where pure meth helps in power gains to include my own experience.

More on the meth - My car went from running high 12's to running low 12's (about a .5 second on the 1/4) with only the 15 rwhp gain. Why is that? my efficiency and power and much better throughout the rpm range than on motor. I make my power very early and maintain it well. For example, there were similar cars making say (so they say) 450rwhp and my car would smoke them every time since they see their 450 for a very short time and probably realistically average 350 rwhp because of my efficiency with the meth. Now there are other helpers with my efficiency such as having a full manual shift kit automatic leaving no room for driver error but the meth alone gained .5 seconds on the 1/4 without adding a lot of power (meaning efficiency went through the roof). One tip I have is to use the boost (if boosted) rather than MAF signal. The boost ONLY turns on under WOT while the MAF is less predictable considering turning on your A/C can raise your voltage some and then your spraying while in 3rd gear tapping the throttle at 3k rpms.

Verdict - Don't mess around with the 50/50 mix. I never ran down the track with it but losing power just to get cooler IAT's doesn't sound like a good use of money. The pure meth gains power, still lowers temps, and gains engine power efficiency throughout the rpm band. Don't expect big power gains as the in house dynos from Snow or other companies try to fool you with. If you want big power gains and cooler temps then go nitrous but pure meth is still a good bang for the buck in my book if you do it right.

Total cost (without problems): $400 kit + $100 tune (should take 2-3 runs for base and corrections) = $500 for 15 rwhp and .5 second on 1/4 mile.
