285/40/20 on lowered '06 GT???
I know the tire size thing has been beaten to a pulp but...
I have a question. I just ordered the Foose Nitrous wheels for my '06 GT,
20x10 rear (40mm offset) and 20x8.5 front (34mm offset).
I will be lowering the car using either the Eibach Pro-Kit Springs or Steeda Sport Springs (which provide a slightly smaller drop...which may or may not turn out to be important).
I would like to go with a 285/40 on the rear and a 255/45 on the front (which is ~29" diameter).
Has anybody tried it? Am I going to have rubbing issues?
I know I have seen Saleens with 275/40/20 on the rear, but am not aware
whether or not there were any mods done to get them to fit.
Any input would be much appreciated...and again, I apologize for beating a dead horse.

No apologies necessary, but from talking to my tire guy before, you will probably have a problem with that. Most guys with 10 inch wide 20's in the rear are running 30 series tires, and 35 series in the front, so IMO you'll prob have a problem trying to run 40's.

I have the same rims and im running with 30's at the back and 35's on front. I have no problems. They told me that I can go with a 305/30/20 at the back but I dont know if this is too big.

Well I applaud your effort to actually put a tire with a decent sidewall on 20 inch rims. Nothing looks worse than 20 inch rims on a stock height mustang using a 30 series tire. I think the biggest concern is in the front when using a tire that tall, the back shouldn't be a problem unless those rims/tires stick out past the fenders, which they very well might.
I would stick to 28 inch diameter or less in the front, which means a 255/40/20

Yep that is what i was also told by several tire guys also. I had a hard enogh time trying to convince them that the 285/30 would fit out back.

RE: 285/40/20 on lowered '06 GT???
I run the same wheel/tire combo as the Foose Stallion (although my tires are Falken)
Front are 40s and rear are 275/35s. Even though they are smaller numbers, the tires are actually almost the exact same diameter. I'm pretty sure the wider the tire is, the taller the sidewall gets, no matter what your second number is.
But, Next time I get tires I am going to put 40s on the rear. I think 275 is fine for width....it looks good and it really matches the wheel very well. I have the Nitrous in 20's also by the way.

We build a Foose equiped mustang for dealers all across the US. We use a 275/35R20 in the rear and a 255/35R20 in the front with Ground Forces 1.5 inch drop. Fits perfect without a single rubbing issue and you can still go over speed bumps and up driveways without having to go at an angle. Keep in mind that the width of a tire is a proportion of the height. A 40 or 45 series will be way too tall unless the car stays at stock height, you may be able to get them to fit. The offset of the wheel will also determine if they will fit too. On my personal car I run a 9 inch wide wheel on all 4 corners, high positive offsetwith a 265/35R20 all the way around. I am using Ground Forces kit and have 0 rubbing issues.

I was running the Foose DF5's, same widths adn offsets, adn with Eibach Sportlines, (pretty salmmed) I was running 275/35's and 255/35's with no rubbing anywhere, and I didn't have to go sideways across speedbumps or into driveways, BUT...I don't think you'll put much wider a tire there with that 40mm offset. Another 10mm would help a lot. (closer to 50 mm) I'm still running the Sportlines, but nowwith the factory 18 X 8.5" wide polished Bullits, and the 235/55's. It dosen't look quite as "bad ***", but I tell you what, it's a lot nicer car to drive, and actually handles way better. I'll be getting 19's, and I'm going with 285/35 rears on 10's (53mm), and 265/35 fronts on 9's(41mm) with coilovers. I'm also getting rid of the Sportlines and Foose rims/tires if anyone's interested.
