Squeaks coming from brakes?

Squeaks coming from brakes?
I just bought my car a few weeks ago and have noticed a squeaking noise coming from the brakes while driving, its not continuous its just a "squeak..squeak..squeak" that speeds up and slows down with the speed of the car. I know it has something to do with the brakes because it stops when I hit the pedal I just have no idea what would cause it. I had a friend that said that the former owner may have changed the brakes and not applied the "no squeak" stuff your supposed to put on em. Could this cause it? Thanks for any help:thumbup:  By the way its a 2005 GT.

RE: Squeaks coming from brakes?
Is this doing it even if you don't have your foot on the brakes? You said it goes away when you start to apply the brakes. It maybe as stated in the above post, something stuck between the rotor and brake pad. It also maybe a rotor that was overheated, or not bedded in right, which you now have a warped rotor. Best thing to do if you know what side it is on, is to pull the wheel off and see if anything is stuck in there. If you see nothing, put the wheel back on and turn it by hand. You will hear and see the rotor touch up against the brake pads. If this happens, get the rotors turned, and bed them in. The noise should be gone after that.

RE: Squeaks coming from brakes?
Thanks alot guys, Im gonna take it off Sat and check it. I won't get off work early enough to do it until then. I hope its something easy because its pretty embarrassing. Oh and Cobrakev it does go away when I press the brakes, at least it gets quiet enough that I can't hear it while driving if it does do it. Thanks alot guys!
