Wow Kevin, sure makes me feel better about asking the stupid questions about tireshere. Hope everything worked out with your insurance after that happened!

Ahhh yeah...sorry to see that Kevin..definately some wet weather traction if you are expecting any rain!
Here is a pic of what I had to deal with back in April at MSR Cresson...100mph through this leading into a turn!

That turn took out at least a half dozen cars (mostmore expensive than mine) that weekend.

Holy cow that is something! I have never seen anything like that on track before.

Yeah insurancecovered the red car so it all worked out. And more importantly, nobody got hurt. Incidentally to the OP - apparently it makes a big difference to the insurance companies whether an event is a "competition" or not as to covering or not covering damage during the event. Usually having the event be timed (like a TT) will be considered competition and you might be on your own in terms of insurance. Just a heads up.

But in any case, you are going to have a blast and probably become addicted. Just be safe and have a good time.

Enviously,
Kevin.

They only know it's a TT if you tell them

The advice you're getting is very good. Street tires are a great idea while you're learning how to drive on a road course. You should be concentrating on braking points, turn-in points and exiting the turns properly. Do mind your brakes. Don't overheat them!! If you do they won't be there when you need them. Have fun!

Kevin - sorry to see the damage to your red car. Glad you were ok and able to work it out with your insurance company.

PonyGT2005 - That's a serious puddle!! Why were they even running the event with that much standing water on the track? I understand running in the wet, but that's a bit rediculous not to mention dangerous. Reminds me of the European Grand Prix....cars sliding everywhere!
