Who runs 255/45/18`s on 9" wheels????
I`m looking at three different wheel tire combinations for my GT.One uses the same tire size at all four corners andtwo use staggered wheels and/or tires.
*Combo 1: 18"x9" Shelby Razors wearing 255/45/18`s at all for corners
*Combo 2: 18"x9.5" Steeda Pentars with 255/45/18`s up front and 275/40/18`s in the back
*Combo 3: Shelby Bullits 18"x9" front, 18"x10" back, wearing 255/45/18`s and 285/40/18`s rear
My question is this. Do any of you guys running the 255/45/18`s regret not running a bigger/wider wheel package? Do you have any problems with traction at launch or laterally through curves.
What about you guys running staggered tire sizes front to back?
What about the guys running staggered wheels and tires front to back?
I am ok with the looks of any of these set ups. What I am concerned with is the best all around performance. My car will have a complete lowered for performance suspension for handling, but will also have 4.10 gears for launching. I`m trying to stradle the line on this one.

You must answer your own question. Do you want a drag racer or a club racer? Do you want neutral handling or under steer. I always prefer neutral handling with slight over steer. My suspensionmods are club racer (see sig)and I went withGoodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 VBS, 255/45/18's at all four corners. This size fits my stock 18 X 8.5's and handle real well with my mods.

RE: Who runs 255/45/18`s on 9" wheels????
Thanks guys. I actually really would like to go with the 18"x9" Shelby Razors with 255/45/18`s all the way around. That way I can set my suspension up a little more neutral and also be able to rotate tires. I guess I`m just nit picking since I`m waiting on my settlement check and can`t really do anything right now but second guess myself.
Plus I really like the Razor wheel`s looks. I`m thinking of going with the gray painted style on an Alloy car.

Just FYI: I run 255/45 tires (BFG KDWs) on 18x9.5" wheels (+50mm offset) and I get some rubbing up front when turning sharply. Nothing terrible, but it's something to keep in mind if you're going that wide up front. I'm lowered with Eibach ProKit springs as well, which is probably a factor.

I hope I don`t have that problem. I shouldn`t since the Razors have a 40mm offset, which is supposed to be the perfect fitting. You are running GT500 type wheels, right? I`ve looked at those but never realized they had a 50mm offset. Is that pretty much across the board with all the GT500 style wheels.

I have 255/45/18 KDW’s on Shelby Razors and am very happy with the combination. I have the original wheels with 24mm offset and the fit is good with out any rubbing.

My car isheld upwith Eibach Pro-Kit springs and damped with D-Specs and virtually the entire Steeda suspension catalog to locate andcontrol the wheels and tires. I'mrunninglightweight forged Roush 18x10wheels with 41mm offset all aroundwith 275/40x18BFG g-Force KD tires. No rubbing anywhere even lock to lock without theFord recommended steering lock limiters. You should have no problems with a 9" wide wheel all around and 255/45x18's orthe Steeda 9.5" wide wheels and 275/40/18's all around. The Steeda Pentstars are a great wheel, lightweight andfit inside the wheel wells pefectly. Your car will be much beter balanced with same size wheels and tires all around. This is very different from the ideal drag tire setup.
If you seriously want to run the drag strip you need 15" or 16" rear wheels and slicks with lightweight skinny wheels and tires up front. To do this you need to modify your rear axle anti-roll bar mounts and install smaller rear brakes or just settle for 16" wheels and slicks. Of course there are very few people this serious so most people just run 17" rear wheels and just live with theslower 60ft. times.
