I just read the thread you started back in Oct/07. My 08 GT is way too high like yours was...since I don't know if you measured you car before installing the springs, but after installing the Steeda Ultralites do you know how much it dropped font and back ??? or even top of the wheel well to the ground...front and back. From your last picture it looks like the back dropped more then the front....it looks great
Thanks

So I just installed a set of Steeda Ultralites and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. Installation wasn't too bad either.... but then again I'm in the military and we have auto hobby shops so items such as lifts, impact guns, spring compressors, etc. are at my finger tips! Kick *** huh?!
Hi Darkness7,

You can thank General Curtis LeMay,USAF for those automotive "hobby shops." He started them back in the '50's I think because he was a sports car nut!

Cheers!

I just measured mine and although you have 17's and I have 18's, the overall diameter is very close if you retained the factory 235 55/17's. My (Ground to wheel well center) front is 28 1/2 and rear is 29 1/2....thats a 2 1/8 inch gap between the top of the front tire and the center of the wheel well, the rear has a 3 1/8 inch gap.

I know I'll go with the d-specs and adjustable phb, now it's just the springs, your mustang lowered 5/8 in the front and 3/4 in the rear...for me 5/8 in the front is good but I need more like 1 1/2 in the back !!!

Thanks for your input.

LICobra,

Well, turns out my rear measurements are all screwed up anyway. I went out to re-measure to see if they had "settled" any and my front still measures 27 1/2" but now my rear is 28 3/16"!!! They've settled... UP.... from 27 7/8"!

Then I realized how I screwed up. I had all my aftermarket parts in the trunk when I measured it stock. And I had all my OEM parts in the trunk when I measured it right after the install... Thus, all that stuff must have been weighing the rear down a bit. Which makes sense considering your stock rear measurement was over 29" and mine was just 28 5/8". I know I measured it right as the front is still the same.

What an idiotic mistake!

So here are some current measurements with an empty trunk and stock wheels/tires:

Floor to center wheel well: 28 3/16"
Floor to top of wheel: 25 3/4"
Top of wheel to center of wheel well: 2 1/4"

So, yeah, I'm missing 3/16 somwhere, but I figured close enough!

You said you want a 1.5" drop in the rear and the Ultralites are supposed to give an approx 1.25", so you may want to go with a different spring.

Unless you're using a level to take measurements to the top of your tire, those measurements are subject to lots of error. "Eyeballing" it is not very accurate at all, especially when you're bent over trying to read the numbers.

Best cheapie-tool bet to even measure to the wheel well is to use a carpenter's combination square off a quality yardstick and do all of your measuring with the car on level ground. If you've just let the car down off of the jack, roll it forward a few feet and then back to take any stiction out of the suspension. Use a level so that you know the yardstick is truly vertical both from the front/rear and from the side. Picky? Sure is, but it's the only way to make sure that you really measured what you thought you measured.

i hear what you aresaying. because of my screw up i forgot i was going to mention how i measured it.

as far as the wheel height, i layed a ruler on top of the tire and measured from the ground to that. that of course presumes the tire itself is level.

i figured that was close enough for this purpose.

I appreciate your effort, I know it's not exact as Norm started but I get the picture, I want to buy Tein H Tech springs, they state .9 lower in the front and 1.7 in the rear...that works for me, but I would feel more comfortable if I knew someone already used them and could verify the height....although they don't seem that popular.
