Speaking of adjustability - I was not aware that Koni made an adjustable model for the S197...what is the part number and the cost? I did a little searching but couldn't find them. Koni does have the great reputation and I'm sure they would be just fine.

Thank you for the link to better pricing. I was looking at some info on the Tokicos, and it says they are adjustable for rebound AND compression, while the Koni's are only adjustable for rebound.. As with everything else custom, more adjustability = good, no? Also, if the Bilsteins aren't adjustable, then what makes them such a good damper choice?

jayel579: Thanks for the link to the Koni's on Strano's site. Interesting, I wish I'd known about these a couple months ago, it would have made the decision on which dampers to get a little tougher. If Strano is selling them...I guess you could assume they are very good, after all, he is one of the best drivers in the country. I wonder if he uses them personally, that would be a really good endorsement.

exx1976: Note that the D-Specs have one adjuster that changes both the compression and rebound settings at one time (they are notseparately adjustable), so they are not like some racing dampers that are fully adjustable.

Honestly - I think you'd be happy with either choice. The D-Specs are very well tested and work quite well, as noted above. I haven't read any reviews/posts about these particular Konis but, they do have the lifetime warranty and the big reputation.

Argo - thank you for the note on the non-individually adustable compression/rebound. I think that has made my decision for me. I was very happy with the Koni/Eibach combo in my last ride, I think I'm going to go that route again.

Jayel - thank you again for the link to better pricing - I'm going to use it. Free ground shipping FTW!!

Thanks for all the help guys!

Bilstein's are a mono-tube design vs Koni and Tokico are a twin-tube design. With a twin-tube design damper that have a tube within a tube, meaning internally there is a sleeve inside the outide tube holding the shock "oil" where the shock piston is compessing into. What happens is that "oil" heats up and expands or foams past the piston seal internally causing fade. Unfortunatly nothing is perfect and this happens with all twin-tube designed dampers. I am contridicting myself a little here as I say Koni's are better then Tokico's but like I said before, I believe Koni to be the better product between the two.

I had to do some research to support my arguement and here are the articles that I have read. Its not nessicarily that Bilstein is a better shock it is the design of there shocck.

There is a whole bunch of information from these guys regarding susepsion setup and tuning. Part 5 and Part 6 are specifically about dampers. Parts 1-4 are also very good reads, take a look at them.

Hrmm... I was able to find the Bilsteins for only like $50 more than the set of Koni's.. But they aren't adjustable.. But it is a better design.. Especially after reading those articles. Now I'm confused again. AAARRRGH!!!

Aww, HELL!!

I just found that Eibach makes a mono-tube damper. I can get the Pro-kit (dampers andsprings) for $720..
