Default KONI Yellows or Tokico DSPECs for Drag Racing Only?

As a hypothetical...

If you were told you could only choose between KONI Yellow or Tokico DSPEC shocks and struts for use on a drag race only Mustang GT, which would be best for this application?

Forget all other variables...a stock Mustang GT on a 1/4 mile drag strip....which would you want installed and why?

Thanks.

Well, the most significant difference between the two would (for drag racing)be the damping adjustment; Konis adjust compression, while Tokicos adjust compression/rebound at the same time. For drag racing, the launch is where the tuning comes into play. Is the rebound adjustment important enough to matter?

honestly, I doubt you could tell the times apart from a car properly setup with either.

It's currently hard to get a hold of Konis, since Koni recalled the front struts they are on backorder. They told me up to two months, which I hope is sooner.

Hi 2006gtmike,

Well I'd choose QA1 S/A struts and D/A rear dampers. But given these two choices on an otherwise identically setup suspensionD-Specs should be able to give youa better launch. The D-Specs valve curves were designed to be effectivefor drag racing as well asroad racingand to have nice street manners when adjusted appropriately. The D-Specs have a very wide range of reboundAND compression damping adjustment, wider than any other street damper is the claim. The Koni Sport dampers have a "fixed"compression damping rate that was developed for high performance street and road course use. They are both very good dampers but IMO the edge for drag strip use would go to the D-Specs.

HTH!

Hi SlideWRX,

Actually Koni Sports for the S197 chassis are rebound adjustable only.

Cheers!
