I guess I should wait a while before swapping my stock all season tires for the KDW2's!

Ijust got back from the dealership and my car came in today. It will be next week before I pick it up as they have to order and install the SC. Hopefully it won't be snowing when I drive it home!

I dont think control arms will help his summer performance tires get traction on a cool roadway.

Nothing will help, even the KDW that are classified as All-Season get useless when the temp drops.

There really is nothing you can do with high-performance tires. The rubber is so soft that it hardens up really fast once the temp drops. And once that rubber hardens up...traction is now lost.

No Traction with 275's???? And I was wondering if 255's were good enough. What are your mods?

VistaGT

Note the comments in the above thread about the effect of temperature. KDW2s, or any other high performance summer tire, won't work in cold weather.

In another thread F1Fan say he gets 1.2 G on a 200 ft skidpad with KDWs so that sounds pretty good to me.

ORIGINAL: iluvmycar

I have the G-Force KDW T/A

Perhaps therein lies my problem.
I'll have to remember that next time I buy tires in that case.
Son of af'in bitch. I don't have the money to buy a new set of tires.
I've had these for a little over a year now.

I'll tell you what... in low temps these things are all OVER the place.
It does'nt have to be snow or ice. Just some cool weather.
I can't believe that my wheel/tire place sold these damn things to me without noticing this.
Meh. I don't know if I'd go yelling at the wheel/tire place just yet.. They may have thought that you knew what you were doing, and won't be driving it in the winter, or would have a different set of tires for cold weather. I know my NT555's aren't going to see pavement unless its > 50* out and dry..

Without knowing anything about the tire place or what sort of experience its sales force has in actual tire behavior it's really easy to think that they simply don't know. Just because there is no snow/slush/ice on the road is more than enough for most people to think that summer-only tires aren't giving up anything.

Larger places like Tire Rack and Discount Tire do. But a genuine understanding about tires and their "happy temperature" (and getting them there without going too far above it)is something that few people outside of racers and experienced autocrossers possess.

To the OP, where in Texas do you live? I run the same exact tires year round in the Houston area and they seem fine to me. Then again, I don't get too wild on the streets. Just remember, you best traction contol device is going to be your right foot/brain. If it's cold/wet/whatever outside just slow down and be careful.
