What do i have to do?
I want to run a 315-35-17 tire on the back of my mustang and i dont want it to stick out past the fender, What do I have to do to accomplish this. I dont know if there is a wheel out there that will do it. Thanks for the help

315/35 17 is about 1.5 inches shorter than stock. 315/40 17 (nitto 555 makes them) is a closer match to stock height. That tire is about 12.4 inches wide. you'tr going to need at least a 10" rim for sure. You'll just need to watch the offset. If you don't want them to stick out, then keep the offset above 40 or so. I've seen alot of 17x10.5 on Ebay, but the offset is +24...those will stick out a little. IMO, it has a better stance though.

Its all in the backspacing and offset.
You will want to tuck them in like they
are on an OEM rim.
7" wide OEM rim has 39mm offset.
8" wide OEM rim has 45mm offset.
8.5" wide OEM rim has 50mm offset.
That keeps the backspacing the same
with different rim widths.
At some point you will want the added rim/tire
width to stick out towards the fender lip as you
can only tuck so much inside without starting to
hit the rear shocks or the front struts with the
inside edge of the tire. I would not go any higher
than a 50mm offset with 10" wide rims.

FOR STARTERS, go to the tirerack website and look over their wheels. They list the specs and I THINK you can search by size and offset.
Just about every aftermarket site that sells wheels list the offset in addition to the width.

First:
Head over to American Muscle and see what they have to fit an S197 and look at the back-space/off-set measurments below pic. Measure your current wheels and do the math. This will tell you where the width will sit on your ride. Go ***HERE*** and you will see what I mean about back-space
Next:
Park your car on the bottom of a steep driveway at a 45 degree angle. You need to get the axle completely articulated so one wheel is way up underneath and the other is all the way down. If you can get the one side of the axle to rest on the bump-stop, that would be best. Now measure all points of the tire/wheel to exhaust, fender, shocks and such (on both sides of your car). You will be able to see how much room you have left.
