Default Time to change tires again... what do you think?

Right now im putting 600rwhp/tq down and is a street car. My current tire setup is staggered... 255/45/17 front and 285/40/18 rear.

My question is should i do this again or would i better benifet from some other setup?

I was thinking 255/45/17 front and 305/45/18 rear? What do you guys think of that?

Chris

Edit: My suspension mods include... not sure if this helps the decision on tire choice or not but thought i would throw it in their.

Steeda ultralite springs
tockio d specs
steeda lower trailing arms
lower control are relocation brackets
adjustable panhard bar
panhard brace
steeda upper 3rd link adjustable
HD camber plates

For new tires the following question always exists..... what are your driving needs?

If your runnin' 600+ HP, you are likely in to launching and the 1/4? If not, track use? twisties ? Are these DD tires? Will you be driving in the wet? What is your budget?

Oh these are my pure DD tires. I have tires for the 1/4 already. I do spend a lot of time on the street though and i see rain ever so often so i needed a good tire to go with. Thats why i wasnt sure if 255/45/17 and 305/45/18 is good or not.

Can't find 305/45-18 at either Tire Rack or Nitto, so I can't find out what rim widths it should legitimately be fit to. Don't know what you've got for wheels, and I will not recommend a combination involving a too-narrow wheel. Stock GT wheels are out (way too narrow), and at the very best, 9.5" wide wheels (such as are on the GT500) are too close to call.

But assuming that that tire size exists, and that your wheels are wide enough (or you're getting new ones that are), it would be nearly 3" taller than those front tires. Are you sure you want that much difference in your normal driving?

I found out i would be adding about a total of 30lbs of rotational mass if i went with the fr500 wheels and bigger tires.. so im thinking of ruling that out now. I hate this whole tire thing!

Edit: Im really liking these.. would they fit a 295 or a 305 on them? I have no idea how to tell do i like at the 18x9.5 ? http://www.edgeracing.com/wheel/1930/ On that site it says PCD:5x130.. what does that mean? I tried to find these wheels to fit my car and they came up in like PCD: 5x113 or something. Or does this even matter?

if i can fit a 295 or 305 on that then, thats the wheel im getting i think.

Descriptions like "5 x 130" and "5 x 113" are bolt circle specs, given as "number of bolts) x (bolt circle diameter in mm). Neither of those match up to the 5 x 114 mm I see elsewhere for Mustangs (metric equivalent of 4.5" = 114.3 mm, but I'm not sure whether the Mustang wheel is officially specified in metric or in SAE units). I did not see 'Ford' listed in the lookups on that site.

All I've found so far in those sizes is 295/40-18 in Falken Azenis RT615, and they call for a 10" minimum width rim. Very grippy for a tire that you could legitimately use on the street (with a little extra care in the wet) but perhaps not having a long treadlife. I think it was primarily intended for street tire autocross competition.

I think im just going to go with 285 on the rear then, it is just too much trouble for me to go wider than that. I decided on my rim choice..

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ll&sort=Weight

I can get 2 of those in 18x8.5 and 2 in the rear 18.9.5! so i think im good now? Also they only weigh 19lbs.. pretty good imo.

You will be pushing it running 285's on a 9.5" wheel and not sure one is even rated for fitment on less than a 10".

Generally speaking, you will get a max of 255 on an 8.5" and 275 on a 9.5". Some manufacturers will go a little wider, but most wont. As for recommendations, if you want a great tire and get 15~20K, I would recommend the Michelin PS2. I love them and use them on my Winter set of wheels. If you want to go hardcore....... go Toyo R888's all around for VERY nice cornering and all around dry traction.
