Default GT500/FRPP Brake Upgrade/Wheel Fit

I am planning on upgrading to the GT500/FRPP Front brake set up and have some questions regarding this swap and wheel fit. Ford Racing's website states that the GT500 wheel or equivalent 18" rim must be used. I have the stock 18" "Fan Blade" wheels on the car right now. Has anyone run the GT500 brake kit with these wheels? Is the wheel interference issue a result of the larger diameter of the rotor/caliper or width of the larger caliper? Are there any stock wheels other than the GT500 that will fit with this brake set-up?

I don't think the fanblades will work...but mostly 20s will work with almost any BBK kit...just depends on backspacing and offset of the wheel...along with diameter of course...

I use my car for a combination Daily Driver and weekend autocross racer so I would like to keep the rim diameter/weight as low as possible. I know that the fan blade rims are fairly heavy and I am looking for a second set of rims to race with, but would like to be able to use the stock rims for street use if possible

Yes, cat, the diameter of rotor AND potentially the width of caliper. I suggest you go ***HERE*** and will find LOTS of good info on how to measure clearances for rotors/calipers.

I run 13"~4 piston Brembos, same as GT500, I think. They have about 3/4" on top of caliper to inside of wheel and 1/4" between face of caliper and back-side of spokes. The off-set isn't really at play here as the space is either enough or it's not reguardless of where the "center" of the wheel is located.

Most steeda wheels are listed to clear big brakes, alot of aftermarket ones will too. Seems like the bullits and similar is where you hit some problems.

Good luck

I just finished going through this hell with my 20's fitment. I finally figured it out. If you want to go aftermarket 20's let me know.

The GT500 brakes only clear the OEM 18" GT500 wheels M1007S1895.
Not the 18" fanblades. I dont believe they will clear the GT500 brakes.

There is a write up about the install in Muscle Mustangs
& Fast Fords OCT 08 page 152 - "SKID MARKS".
They went from 17" Bullitts to the 18" GT500 wheels to avoid
fitment problems with the bigger brakes.

Do some research...and you'll find some different versions of the GT500 wheels (colors and things)...I'm going with a set of black with chrome lip

I installed the GT500 brakes and after checking out wheels ended going with the Steeda wheels (013-0000). They are reasonably priced and have the correct offset and are not too heavy. I'm running 285/40/18 tires front and rear.

One way to see if wheels will clear the brakes is if they sell them for the GT500 then they should clear the brakes.

My car is a year round DD and lapping day toy.
