I have heard many stories about parts flying. My buddy was switching out springs on a benz sl55, and he said a spring got away from him flew at a poor 302 block that was on the floor and cracked it. Could just be a story, or exageration, but i did not take any chances when switching ot my front springs. use a compresor

Don't know about the impact issue on that poor block, but if a spring weighing 10 lbs is under 600 lbs compression load when it "lets go", it will initially "launch" at 60g, and will reach something like 15 mph in the first three inches of its "escape from captivity". The only comparison I can offer is "how fast can you swing a 10-lb sledge and how much damage can you do with it?".

Right tool for the right job helps ensure safety. Wrong tool can lead to so many more bad things...

Coupes are easy, verts are another story on the 05+. Our verts have additional structure supports which restrict the ability to drop the rear axel as low as can be done on a coupe. This makes it much more difficult to remove and replace the rear springs as they simply don't drop out or can't be pulled out by hand. It requires the use of spring compressors in very tight quarters or the removal of the rear cross member support. Removing and reinstalling the rear cross member support is a biatch as well. Carefully pick your poison
