Direction of rear sway bar???

Is there a left and a right side to the rear bar? Is it not exactly symmetrical? The Mustang shop manual gives directions and says that a new bar has a tag on the left side. I just got a takeoff bar with no tag, so I'm not sure what to do.

See if you can find pictures of the rear end. Im sure there is a correct side. I accidentally installed mine wrong and it produced a loud clunking noise.

Does the picture on page 2 help?

Yes it does! I haven't looked that closely at the bar yet. Putting it on in the next couple of days. Thank you for your help.

On a related note, any ideas where I can get all of the bolts?

The official Ford policy is that a lot of the fasteners are one time only use.

There are however people who have chosen to reuse the fasteners and if you do so that is obviously your choice.

If you do reuse them make sure you use blue loctiite on every one and torque to the proper spec.

Here is an old thread on the fastener part numbers - check out post #8 https://mustangforums.com/forum/s197...t-numbers.html

Would you make the same statement about the fasteners for the front bar?

It does matter which way it goes. I put mine in upside down the first time and it was almost touching the axle on the driver's side. Flipped it over and it had plenty of room.

I wouldn't but Ford does. In my Haynes manual its says "The manufacturer recommends using new fasteners for the installation of the stabilizer bar and links."

In my case when we did mine I balked at paying the dealer $40 Canadian each for the four front strut to spindle flag nuts. Most of the other fasteners were replaced.

What sway bar did you buy?.....and I agree with Sleeper on the fasteners...if they can hold the ft/lbs required after a test drive or 2 great if they cant get new ones as most fasteners are for one time use only....the prices are crazy for the replacements though.

I am all about safety first and getting it done right the first time....JMO

I got a GT takeoff (set of front and rear) on eBay. I really don't care about putting the front one on, but I will do it because I'm sure it is an improvement. But, I definitely want to put the rear one on, but it didn't come with any fasteners. Is it possible to just get some bolts from the hardware store?
