Default How to - Heel Toe Downshifting

Some of you might be interested in this. This is the best write-up and explanation I've come across. Everyone has their own way of doing it but if you have yet to develop the technique, take a read. Also a good discussion of common pedal set up issues. How to Heel Toe

In the Mustang I always wear narrow shoes and find I have to twist my foot and hit the gas with my heel. If I wear a wider shoe I can just rock my foot. Either way works great. In the Corvette I'm having trouble, the pedals are further apart. I'm working on it but may have to invest is a set of aftermarket pedals.

Thoughts?

Thanks for posting the article Argonaut. I have narrow feet so I'm working on the heel blip method this year. It also lets me keep more of my foot on the brake pedal which helps my confidence.

it's funny... you don't really appreciate this method until you get into a car with a driver who knows it... and knows it VERY well.

it shaves precious seconds otherwise wasted (if you're like me) downshifting and rev-matching only with your right foot doing the braking AND blipping while leaving your left foot on the clutch. I have a very lazy downshift that I know can be greatly improved - I take my right foot off the brake to blip the throttle - which forces me to brake sooner that I should have to if I were good at heel-toe.
