Question Lowering my 06GT with 18x10's all the way around?

Question...

I have 18x10's with 275/40/18 tires all the way around.

Can I lower the stang or will it rub? If so how much can I lower it without causing rubbing or any other problems?

Who here has done it?
What size tires do you have with it?
What wheels do you have?

Thanks!

Roush stage 2 and 3 cars all have 18X10's w/ 275/40/18's and are lowered from the roush factory

I know ROUSH had 18x10's all the way around but I did not know they were lowered......

If they are... how much?

I'm running 18 x 9.5 rims with 45 mm offset and 285/40/18 tires all round and lowered with Steeda Competition springs. According to this link the Steeda sprinds lower 1 F and 1.25 R;

https://mustangforums.com/forum/s197...g-allowed.html

After lowering there is a slight rub on the top inner fender when on full lock.

Ford actually recommends a different steering stop when installing wider wheels but I don't know of anyone who has;

"Note: For vehicles with 16" wheels from the factory: -installing 17" x 8" wheels, use steering stop 4R3Z-3932-BA -Installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA
For vehicles with 17" wheels from the factory: -installing 18" x 8.5" or 18" x 9.5" wheels, use steering stop 6R3Z-3932-CA "

Read that, too. What I also take from it is if your car came with the 18" wheels, you don't have to do anything.

I wonder how much of a difference these type of "upgrades" make in the car's performance. You're adding more weight both in the rim and the tires.

It all depends on what you are doing with the car. On the street it is probably not worth it but on a road course - go for it

It's a cornering thing.

In terms of hard numbers, you might gain 0.05 - 0.10 lateral g and two or three mph in a slalom with the cones set at 100' spacing. But that's only the measured max performance part of the story. Wider wheels and tires are stiffer and generally require lower slip angles to get the job done. You may feel this as more responsive turn-in or in car handling behavior that doesn't start to "fall off" or "soften" as much as you start pushing it a bit. Don't underestimate the subjective part here, as it's part of what makes driving a responsive car fun to drive.

I've often wondered how much difference myself. I'm not wealthy enough to swap some of the super lightweight 18x9.5/10's and tires on my car. Let it cool down enough where I feel like driving and that may change lol.

I upgraded (or downgraded depending how you look at it ) from 20x9's with 255/35's front and 275/35 rear to 18x9.5's with 275/40's front and 305/35's rear. I saw about 3 lb weight decrease (per tire) front and MAYBE 1 lb decrease rear. I didn't decrease my rim/tire weight much but the traction/handling increase was enormous!!!

I often dream of what the super expensive lightweight tires and rim combos feel like. I'd love to be able to drive cars setup like mine with different rim/tire combos. Unfortunately its not possible (for me at least) to purchase $5k rim/tire setups and try them out...
