So basically, what this guy is doing, is a no no?

https://mustangforums.com/forum/newr...eply&p=7056841

Or is it a different story for Drag Radials?

Not enough information in that thread to say precisely.

If he's got 305/45 on 9.5", he's just barely OK based on Nitto's rim width range. Note that the profile is 45; 40 and lower profile 305 tires need wider than 9.5".

If he's on 8.5" wheels, that's a pretty bad idea for any kind of driving. I'd be OK with 305/45 on 9" in dragstrip use only, but you have to draw the line somewhere and 8.5" is too narrow.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to be running above 100 mph right next to somebody whose rear tires have less than recommended lateral stability based on insufficient wheel width, and then less still from running low inflation pressure in them for improving launch grip. No thanks.

You're knowledge of tire widths, is way more broad than mine. So for that, thank you sir.

Ok, well I made my decision that I will get the GT500 rims, and equip them with summer tires, and use my 17's for the winter. So basically I want to know the largest tires I am able to fit on the GT500 rims, which are 9.5 wide.

I run 285/40/18 all round on my 18 x 9.5 rims. This is the same size tire as on the rear of the GT500s. There is slight rubbing at the front after the car was lowered.

i would never use an 'all year' tire or all seasons, they just suck, they are not as good as summer tires in the summer, and they are not even close to a real winter tire in the winter. If you see any snow, or prolonged cold temps, read below freezing, get real winter tires and run them, they have the right rubber and will grip and stop a lot better then any all season tire will ever thing about doing.

just my 2 cents from living in the mountains and snow for 4-5 months out of the year.

Here is an old shot on the Steeda rims. I have a shot somewhere on the new Enkei rims but can't find it right now

But for those of us who live where it might only snow once or twice a year (and we drive our cars year-round), all season tires work just fine.
