Default New Tires/Rims Help

My stock Pirellis have gone to crap, so I'm looking into getting new tires (and rims for the hell of it) for my 06 gt. I'm definitely going with 18s ( I have the stock 17s now), and I'm trying to go for a staggered set up with whatever I end up with. I've been looking around online and it seems a lot of people tend to go with 255/45/18s on 18x9s in the front, and 275/40/18s (or 285s) on 18x10s in the rear. My question is though, won't the tires in the front sitting taller than the tires in the rear look a bit odd? Or will the size be so minimal it won't make much of a difference?

I doubt you'd notice.

The numbers make it sound worse than it is. Between 255/45-18 and 275/40-18 there is about 0.3" difference. Half on the top, half on the bottom, and I'll bet $ that when you compare two tires mounted on a car that your reference points are the axles unless the difference is HUGE.

0.3" is about what full tire tread depth is - does anybody really worry about what putting new same-size tires on only one end of the car is going to look like when the two other tires are only about half worn?

That said, if I was going to do a staggered set I'd use 255/45 with 285/40.

Or 245/45 with 275/40.

9's will work with either front size, and 10's with either rear.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't be that much. I actually ordered the tires and rims early this morning (same sizes as I put in my OP) but about an hour or two ago I got a call from tirerack to confirm my purchase because the tires I had ordered were smaller/wider in the back and taller/narrower in the front. The guy on the phone thought I was nuts when I said I was positive those were the tires I wanted haha
