Question A Drag Radial I can keep on the car for everyday?

My nitto 555's just don't hook near as much as I'd like.

So I am in the market for a MILD drag radial that will hook REALLY good
on the street but be safe for everyday driving.
I drive probably 10 mi. a day and the traffic is not heavy.

We do get rain on occasion here so I would have to have one
that I could be safe in the rain with as possible.

On the other hand I know drag radials are'nt meant for the rain.
I would just keep these tires on during the spring and summer
and use my 555's during the winter.

I would also keep the 555's up front of course all the time.

I have done a little research and the tire I have seen talked about that
can do this is the Nitto 555R. If any of you have this tire I would appreciate your input on it. Also if you have any other brands that would serve this purpose well feel free to post them up for me!

Opinions, reviews, whatever.

I am just frustrated at how much my pals with DR's can keep up with me
despite how much more power I am making than them.
These fools have tires that grip like a bitch and they are using them
on the street.

I also need a tire that will fit on my 18x10 wheels.
So if you can help me there to it would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The 555R is yesterday's news.

Look @ the NT05R.

No drag radial is technically for the street and everyday driving.

You want the one that is most likely to fit into that role? That's your tire. Otherwise the remaining options from MT, M&H, Hoosier, etc. are even less suited for the street.

Nitto's site says the 555R is designed around streetability but I would still get the NT05R over that tire any day of the week.

I see no suspension work in your sig, Im betting thats where they're keeping up with you at. I would start diving into suspension work to solve your issues than trying to patch it with a new set of rubber.

Why doesn't OP just go with the tire his friends are using if it is so wonderful? Are they driving it in the rain?

The 555R is apparently the only tire that has any chance of being "safe" in the rain if you go by Nitto's website.

That is what I was going by.
Nitto's site.

I have no clue what my bud is using but he is not using it everyday and he has
an extra set of wheels which I do not.
As for suspension work... he has none.

I would get the NT05R IF I was taking this baby to the track, which I am not.
I am looking for something to hook like a **** on the street when I need it to pretty much.

I think you're expecting a lot. You want a tire that "hooks like a ****" on the street, like your friends. Yet you want to use it in a way that they do not - daily driving w/rain?

Good luck but I don't think you're gonna find a tire that does it all. Everyone wants it. But nobody makes it. It doesn't exist.

Riptide is right, a compromise is necessary. If you want a maximum grip I would suggest mickey thompson ET street radials (I or II). The flip side is you will have to exercise caution in rain, a lot of caution.

Or, buy a sticky street tire for all 4 corners, the NT05. You won't have the grip level of a drag radials, but if will be much better than most tires and driving in the rain won't be nearly as scary.
