Question Strange finding on inspection....

OK had the car inspected (PA) the other day and it passed no issues. The tech was scratching his head though and mentioned to me that there was "front to back" play in the ball joints. No "side to side" or "up and down" play, hence it was all "in spec" but he (as well as I) was puzzled about the "front to back" play.

I'm thinking... fine and well, I'll replace them in the spring anyhow but was wondering if anyone else had ever heard of such a thing?

Are you sure it's not your tie rods?

Yeah. These fellows I work with at this location are on the up-and-up and know their stuff. It's just a puzzlement for sure. Pursuant to the lack of replies thus far, I daresay whatever it is surely isn't a common thing.

Meanwhile, thinking on it I took a real close look at tire wear. Usually if there's issues with the front suspension there's signs there on the tires... be it play, mis-alignment or whatever. Front tires on the car are nearing the end of their life and I've never seen tires wear this evenly.

Thanks for the reply! :-)
