Default Tire plug on daily driver?

I got in the mustang this morning to make a breakfast run and noticed a low tire pressure warning. My right rear was ~20lbs low so I removed the wheel and found a small nail. I pulled out the nail and reamed the hole nice and smooth, then inserted a plug. It's in there nice and snug with no leaks.

Does anyone have an opinion about tire plugs and their reliability? This is a daily driver. My tires only have ~11k on them so I'd hate to have to replace it. Thanks!

It depends on how well the plug was installed. If it's installed correctly, you shouldn't have any problems.

She's in there good and trimmed flush to the tire. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks!

I'm not crazy about plugs and there's nothing like a good patch. But other than it not throwing the balance off and not losing air, don't sweat it, although I'd get it patched if you intend to do any long distance driving.

They seem to be a good bit more durable than the "quick-n-dirty-ness" of the procedure itself suggests. Even the hole that took two plugs to seal stayed solid for the next 20,000 miles or so. My experience, anyway, and I just had to plug another tire last month.

How fussy you are about the preparation for and making the repair probably makes some difference.

I'd watch that tire's pressure carefully - more so than the others, since a softer tire will deform and "squirm" more locally. I doubt that lots of extra squirming would be good for the plug's pressure-tightness.

I had screw in the 'shoulder' of the tire one week after I bought it... bummer! Luckily the dealer where I bought the tires fixed it free of charge. It was 'iffy' being in the shoulder. Since yours is in the center, it should be OK.

I'll probably get it properly patched in a couple months when I have nothing better to do.
