Default 285/40-18's on 8 1/2 wide rims?

I know there are many who run this size on the rear. Is it okay and who is running this setup and can I see pics?

That seems aweful wide for an 8.5" rim. I have 275's on a 9" rim and want to go 285's next and I'm probably going to go with 10" rims.

No, you need at least a 9" rim for a 285 and that's on the small side.

Yeah, I have re-thought my tire selection. I think I'm going to go with 255/45-18

These, they seem like a good choice for the money.

Or these

But I'm leaning towards these

You've already put a lot of money into your car and you're putting down some respectable power, might as well drop another $1k for some wider wheels so you can put that power down better...

Someone needs to make wide replicas of the 18" polished wheels.. like they did for the 03 cobra wheels. I keep contemplating switching back to the factory wheels since they look so amazing, but they are just too narrow.

^Will be getting my business when I have spare change. OP, you might look into this route.. especially since you're making all that power.

I called them, they want something like $300 - $350 per wheel to make them 10 inch wide. Too much money.

+1 that an 8.5" is not wide enough to safely run a 285.

I bought my 4 OE GT500 takeoffs on ebay for ~$650 w/shipping. My stock 18's were 8.5" wide. The GT500's are 9.5". More than enough for my 275's.
