Wow, a 275/35/18 must be about 25.6" tall. Doesn't that make a Mustang look like a Shriner's car?? Erik

Even a 275/40/18 looks short on a Mustang.

Let's face it, we know that the Ford Engineers are telling us that a drop of 1.0 or 1.2 inches is fine with after market springs not to effect the Mustang's suspension engineering very much. The ideal tire height to look good on the Mustang is 27.2"-27.7" to get a full look being dropped about 1" on springs.

Unfortunately, if you want a great summer street tire wide enough to support supercharged power in the rear, and an equivalent front to match height, your out of luck if you own a Mustang.

For 18" wheels, a 295/40/18 and a 265/45/18 would be perfect at a 27.35" basic height, but they don't exist. At 19" 305/35/19 and 265/40/19 would come in at about 27.4" which is perfect for us, and they don't exist. As well as 305/30/20's and 265/35/20 which do exist amazingly in Pirelli P Zero's.

Also in the P Zero's in a staggered rear 305/30/20 and front 255/40/19 would be a nice width and height combo. This stuff never ends. Erik

Yeah, a 295/40/18 would be perfect, height wise, although it would be better on a 10 or 10.5 inch wheel width. That size is actually available, but the only choice as far as I know is the Falken Azenis RT-615, but it's not cheap at $270 to $300+ each, depending on where you buy:

On the other hand you can get Continental Extreme Contact DW's, which is the #2 ranked max Summer performance tire on the tire rack, in 275/40/18 for $146 each:

That SAME EXACT tire from the same exact place in a 285/40/18 is $267!

I bought 4 18x10 LTW5 wheels from Vorshlag, and that is the dilemma I am having. I'd prefer a beefier tire that basically at least the same height/diameter as stock but once you go past 275 the price goes up leaps and bounds. It's frustrating.

One other option on is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires which come in a 285/40/18 for $173:

Those are the tires that came stock on my Z06 and they are ok, but there are better options....just not in that size for that price.

Here is a 2011 mustang with the 18x10 wheels I bought and 275/40/18's all around. Although not perfectly ideal, as a 285 or 295 would be even better, it still looks quite good in my opinion with the way the car is lowered, and I think the handling will actually be a little crisper too with the slightly less wide tire on the 10" wide rims:

Their car is lowered 2.5 which is lower than I want to go on a DD and I don't want to roll fenders. However, those rims seem a nice option if you don't pound over potholes daily.

"We have tested with 265/40/18 and 275/40/18 tires (nearly matching the stock tire height for proper speedometer calibraiton) on a 2.5" lowered Mustang with no issues, and larger tires should fit as well. "Some fender rolling may be required, depending on tire sizes used." - just to be safe."

I already read that part. I don't think in most of their pictures the car is lowered that far. It looks to only be lowered 1.5" or so. I just think that at some point they tested it lowered to that extreme and that it was still fine. But IF you are lowered that far AND want to run an even bigger tire then that, then some fender rolling may be required. That's all they are saying. Basically that's the case with any aftermarket wheel, they are just covering themselves. And here's the other thing, my 2012 came from the factory with the fenders already rolled. Not sure if the 2011's did too, but I think they did.

And I don't get why you think you have to lower it 2.5" to run those wheels/tires? It will still look fine lowered 1 to 1.5"...I'm only lowered 1" all the way around. As stated, the 275/40/18 nearly matches the stock height.

As far as the strength for daily driving, the final production ones are rated to 1800lbs each. It's a semi-forged wheel and stronger then most cheaper after market wheels. They've been running them on the street for a long time with no probs. you put ANY wheel at risk if it's abused enough with giant potholes etc.

Sounds good. I didn't mean to imply one had to lower it that far for any tire wheel combo.

Since I posted above, I got the ok from my fiancee to get a new GT, manual (thank god she can drive a stick), Brembo, so I'm pumped! Will need to get a set of 18's for autocross amd am leaning towards Sam's Steeda springs and koni yellow adjustables.
