Default Leaky strut....alittle nervous

Hey guys, this is my first post here, very excited to have both my new stang and you guys as a helpful resource. So, I have recently noticed my rear right strut had grease on it, only alittle, about 3 weeks ago. Now im noticing that the intire strut is covered in grease and is dripping on the driveway.

Few questions: How long can i go like this before it fails and could possibly cause damage? What is a good alternative replacement? I wanted to just replace the rears for now and do fronts later, is that ok? Im not sure which product to buy, frankly the car handles quite nice stock. Right now my GT's bone stock except for brakes n axle back, but more mods will come and something that keeps the rear end planted would be a good idea id assume. Some occational track days might occur, but its just a fun daily driver. Has about 78k on it now. Didnt wanna spend too much for the rear, maybe $50-80 per strut. Im a total novice in the suspension field, so any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Your shock is already blown if it's leaking. There are a some options out there, some cheaper, some more expensive. I'd recommend doing some research based on what you want to do. I could tell you to go out and spend money on Koni's but unless you need an adjustable shock the extra cost is not worth it. If you do see track days in your future, I would probably recommend upgrading whether it be Koni, Bilstein, Tokico, FRPP, etc. but plan your mods as not to have to buy something for the second time. It's cheaper to just spend the money once.

Koni STR.T's

If you are gonna replace the rears you may as well replace the fronts to. Otherwise you are gonna throw the damping balance off slightly.

I run Koni STR.T dampers all the way around w/ Steeda Sport springs and it's an AMAZING street setup that's not too harsh and is very good for the track as well.

Go to Strano Parts and give Sam a call, he will give you ALL the info you would ever want.

Thanks guys. I havent had much time to be on here, but I will try to change that. I ended up changing up the hole suspension. The rear shocks were replaced with kyb gas adjust and work great but made the rear stiff while front was too soft, so i replaced them with the same line; kyb exel. I added the set of SR performance lowering springs and man is the car different. Really looks great with stiff ride.

As sonnier said, if it's leaking that badly, it's already blown and needs to be replaced.

As for a replacement, well as others have suggested, Koni, KYB, Tokico, and Bilstein. Bilsteins aren't too bad, and can be found for a reasonable price. I found some on eBay for ~$120/each for my E55, which is a steal.

Koni STR.T's are $405 for the set of 4.... That's a steal for a Koni valved and warranted damper. http://stranoparts.com/partdetails.p...D=64&ModelID=5
