Default 2007 gt rear shock issue

I bought a rear shock tower brace and wanted to test fit it. I went to remove the left rear shock and the shock itself seems to be spinning as I loosten the nut and rubber grommet. I didnt have a set of eyes to see if the whole shock was spinning (I could only see what was in the truck.

I am worried that if the shock was spinning i might have messed with something else inadvertently. I tried to tighten the whole thing the other way same amount of turns best I could but who knows if I did.

I shook the car, everything seemed tight and ok but am worried. am I assuming that I would only need to have someone hold the shock as I loosten it and that should be ok? Is it possible that I f****d something up as I did that?

any insight would be great. I didnt think loostening a nut would be so hard
