Default Any concerns buying used lowering springs?

I want to put some Steeda Sport springs on my '09 GT, and every so often a used set pops up for sale. I'm thinking that it would be pretty hard to damage springs and there really should not be much of a risk buying used. Do you guys agree?

I agree, except there are two versions of those springs. And you don't know how they've been treated (are they scratched to hell, subjected to road salt, etc).

It is not impossible to hurt a spring, but it's pretty tough.

Sam...thanks for the note. After I posted it, I came across some of your threads noting the two versions and differences. I now want the 8215's vs. 8216's. From what I've seen so far, the 8216's seem to be a little more common which means I'll probably end up going new. Thanks for all the info you provided about the springs on the other threads.

Springs are relatively inexpensive. It's all the other stuff that goes with them to lower your car properly where it gets a bit more pricey.

You wont have to wait for them to settle. Just repaint them before installing.

I would say no worries buying them used unless they are rusted to hell. Should be easy to tell if they are in bad shape.

I would avoid the the 8216's. They didn't work for me. Even with Koni STR.T's, I found the ride to be harsh and bouncy. Went back to the stock springs after three weeks. The 8216's are light blue (kinda like Grabber Blue) and progressive which is easy to spot on the rear springs. The coils on one end will be wound closer together.

Yep, they are very different "sport" springs. It's funny to me that so many sell them interchangeably. In fact my very first stocking order for 555-8215's came in half and half even though I ordered all 8215's because that's the spring I wanted in the building. It was fixed, but shows that even the manufacturer will send whatever sometimes.
