Suspension Isues going to a Wider Wheel
2006 Mustang V6: I just went from stock 16x7 wheels to 18x8.5 wheels off of a 2007 Shelby GT all the way around. I had to put 5/16 inch wheel spacers to clear the shorter brake rotor/caliper. Does anyone see any issues I might have with my suspension or other front end parts?

Very surprised u needed a spacer given the wider wheels are off a car with bigger calipers and brakes already. But no, you shouldn't have any other suspension issues.

Thanks! The back of the Shelby wheels are more flat on the back side where the stock wheels are thicker where they bolt up to the hub. Wondering if the gt/shelby's have differant hubs which allow the wheels to stick out a little further. It was so close to fitting. Better looking to do the spacers then hitting the outsde of the caliper with grinder. It was about 1/8inch from working.

Maybe they do run different hubs.

Hubs are the same, caliper brackets are different (moves the caliper farther out for the larger GT rotors) and the Shelby GT wheels have a bit more clearance outboard than they do nearer the rim.
|
OP, do you plan on keeping the tires off those wheels, or go with something wider?
|
It came with gforce ta that are 235/50/18 with about 7,000 miles on them. The guy I bought them from said its the widest tire he could get put on the wheels. I don't think thats true so I will look when its time to replace the tires.
