06 4.0L V6 vibration when braking
Hello All, I have a 2006 4.0 L V6 and I have begun to notice a vibration when applying the brakes and wanted to see if I could get a bit more insight as to what might be happening.
The vibration starts to occur when I am at around 40-50% brake, but will then start to reduce as I continue to apply the brakes until there is virtually no vibration at 75% brake and up. Basically, applying the brakes causes the steering wheel to shudder (left/right) and is more noticeable when braking at higher speeds (50-70 mph), than when braking at slower speeds (20-40 mph). The brakes are not squealing or grinding at all, there is just a vibration. |
I ordered the Roush big front brake kit on my car during purchase. They're made by Stoptech. There is a manual that came with my paperwork package titled as follows:
The "Warped" Brake Disc and Other Myths of the Braking System by Carroll Smith. This is a very good guide and might give good information and advise for you're problem. That being said, first off, check your pads and rotors for overheating and/or wear and replace if necessary. After replacement apply "bed-in" process. Second, when was the last time you bled your brakes and checked your lines? This may be a good time to upgrade to high temp fluid and braided brake lines. |
Warped rotors.

Cool, I appreciate the input, I had also suspected a warped rotor was the culprit. So, looks like I will need to take it to a brake shop and have them inspect the brake pads, and brake lines, and then turn the rotors. Thanks again!!
