AM and other mainstream parts houses have to give themselves a little protection against random customers putting together a wheel and tire package that won't fit up front where there is less space to begin with. They simply can't assume every customer will make enough careful measurements and calculations to verify his proposed wheel&tire combination.

I agree 100% Norm. I think most retailers go with manufactures specs for that reason. Even when I told them Forgestar said it fits they would only sell them as a rear fitment. I was not 100% convinced it would fit until I put it together and mounted it.

Default Rubbing on front 19x10 with 285/35-19

Hi Big Jay,

I have a 2014 GT track pack car. No suspension mods, not lowered. No extra neg camber.

I will track day it at Road Atlanta in November. I have added a brake cooling duct kit, carbotech pads, a braided stainless brake line kit and Motul fluid.

I want to put BFG rival 285/35-19 at all four corners.

With your 10" wide wheel and 285 setup, you have stated no front rubbing. Can you confirm no rubbing at full lock and even when body roll is at maximum, cornering aggressively and the suspension is fully compressed?

Thanks
Brad.

I can't find the actual width for the BFG Rival in 285/35-19. But if it's ~290 mm as measured on the measuring width wheel (11.4" section width on its "measuring width" wheel), you should have about 3/16" tire to strut clearance. The upper portion of your tire shouldn't be moving that far laterally unless the tire is underinflated.

My 285/35-18's don't rub at track days, running with much less clearance than that, though they're mounted on wheels that are wider than 10" that will reduce the tires' lateral distortion while cornering somewhat. You gain clearance mainly because your extra 1" wheel size moves everything up from the axle center by 1/2", while the strut is sloping inward (away from the wheel and tire) as it goes up.

Hey Brad,

I still have the same setup with no issues. I added Koni yellows and Steeda sport springs and still just fine. Steering is a little heavier. I know of another gt running the 285's on the track pack wheels with no issue. Have fun!
