Default 60-0 Brake distance

I recently purchased my 3rd 5th Gen Mustang (06, 10, 13). It's a 2013 GT auto and it was a Ford certified car. It's a fun car but the brakes were horrible. I couldn't get the ABS to kick in even under maximum braking. My 60-0 was about 140 ft. I took it in to Ford & of course they said it was working normally. My 10 Challenger SRT8, 12 Camaro SS/RS & 14 SS Sedan all come std with awesome brakes so I know I'm a bit spoiled but even my 6,000lb Avalanche truck has better brakes than my Mustang.

I pulled the wheels off & this is what the front rotors look like.

I replaced the brake fluid with Motul RBF600 Synthetic DOT 4 Brake Fluid. At 1st the original fluid was a little dark but the left front went from medium maple color to solid black then to light maple color(new fluid).

After driving the car around for a week I did 4 consecutive 60-0 brake test & all were 120 ft. I'm planning on getting some Hawk HPS pads & replace the front rotors then will retest.

Funny story, I am also on my 3rd 5th Gen mustang...
I agree that the 140' seems way high, 120 is better but still high, but I don't have any fancy track apps to tell me what mine can do.
Have you checked your tires? if they suck then you aren't going to be able to brake as well either.

It has the factory all season 245 tires with plenty of tread. The brakes are way better with the new fluid but the front rotors & pads need to be replaced. I know wider performance tires would really help shorten the stopping distance.

Here's a 2013 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 Track Pack (Brembo Brakes) that stopped worse than mine.

Would be nice to see what others are getting for 60-0 & what did they due to improve. Not mush info out there or at least I couldn't find it.

I don't see 120' as being all that bad, and depending on how hard and how often the car was driven before you got it your week's worth of driving may have been responsible for most of the 20' improvement.

R&T only got 115' for a 2010 GT and 112' for a Boss Laguna Seca (which runs on R-compound tires). Never mind that a little variance from one car to another should be expected.

Our 2010 GT had better brakes than our 2013 until the left front caliper started randomly sticking & would pull you over one lane to the left if your didn't have a firm grip on the wheel. Took it in to Ford & they wouldn't fix it. My wife refused to drive it so we left the car in the shop & traded it in. Ford gave us what we paid new 18 months earlier in trade for a new Escape that was discounted $8,000 off MSRP.

We put over 1,000 miles on the 2013 Mustang & the brakes never got better until we replaced the brake fluid. At least the ABS is working now. My goal is to get under 110' but I'll probably need better tires for that.

Installed Steeda Sport springs & Steeda HD strut mounts today. Replaced my all season 245s P-Zeros for 255 & 275 P-Zero summer tires. Still need to replace grooved front rotors. Have SS brake lines, new rotors & Hawk pads coming this Thursday.

Did a 60-0 test with the outside temp at 56F & stopped in 113ft.

If you want to stop shorter than 100ft you need carbotech XP12's on all four corners. Those pads are the best pads I've ever had. I almost get whiplash every time I bed in new pads. However, they are racing pads and make tons of noise for daily driving. But Hawk HPS pads are much better than stock brembo pads and should help.

Thanks for the info. The stock Mustang brakes felt like that were made out of butter when we took it to the track (2.5 mile track). There were 2 other (2013-14) Mustangs with Roush upgrades in our group and in the 2nd 20 minute session all the Mustangs (including mine that my son was driving) had brake fade to the point they all went off the track. I was driving my 2014 SS Sedan and its factory Brembos worked flawlessly thru all 5 sessions.

60-0 brake test with Hawk HPS pads, temp was 46F. Brake pedal feels better. Now I'm eager to get some more test in when it warms up outside.

Replaced the 255 & 275 P-Zero summer tires that had about 80% tread ( worst tire I have ever owned) for 255 Continental DWS06 all seasons on all 4s and my 1st time out brake testing I did back to back test at 111ft. That 2ft shorter than the shortest distance ever on the P-Zeros.
