Default Caster/Camber Alignment Question

Is it possible to align the caster and camber on the stock plates? Besides adjusting camber at spindle? My impression is that you cannot adjust the caster or camber more?

Dealer told me for $99 they can adjust all 3, toe caster and camber. Is this indeed true?

There are procedures for adjusting caster and camber that do not require aftermarket caster-camber plates, but they involve more work than simply making the adjustments. I'd question whether all three adjustments could be made for both front wheel for $99.

Could you elaborate on those procedures? Besides some adjustment at the spindle I cant see how you can adjust camber more, or caster at all.

The factory-approved procedure for camber involves elongating one of the holes in the strut attachment tabs allowing an angular shift at the lower end of the struts (between the strut and the knuckle). This adjustment is not present at the time of delivery unless the need for camber adjustment was caught earlier (and I know for a fact that cars with technically out-of-spec camber do occasionally slip out to the customer). There are limits as to how much grinding/ovalling is permitted. This operation will affect toe but not caster.

For caster, it's a similar operation at the rear mounting bolt holes of the LCAs. Here, the ovalling moves the ball joint forward/rearward, adjusting caster. This operation will definitely affect the camber and toe settings as well.

Section 204-00 in the 2008 Factory Shop Manual ("Suspension System — General Information . . . 2008 Mustang Workshop Manual
GENERAL PROCEDURES ").
