08 GT. Stock 17" rims. Need new shoes. Never liked the 235/55/17 profile. I changed to Firestone Indy 500 255/45/17, but they are getting harder to find. What are you guys/gals using?

rocky, Don't know how heavy your right foot is, but I am running the NITTO, NT555R, P245/45R17 , rear shoes, on my 1987 331 stroker Fox Body as a daily driver.I thought these tires wouldn't last long but am surprised at their longevity. As far as street manners go, I have had no issues with traction or all around handling.I am also running Michelin Pilot Super Sports, a little expensive, on my 2014 GT Premium and have absolutely no complaints about this tire.

On my '08 GT it's always been 18's, in several different sizes.

235/50-18's on 18x8.5 (OE setup)

255/45-18 Goodyear Asymmetrics on 18x9.5 GT500 wheels, which later went to

265/40-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on 18.9.5 GT500 wheels (yes, I know they're shorter than OE, don't care)

285/35-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on 18x11 Forgestar F14's for track use (even shorter, still don't care, mostly for road course use, so all four corners use this)

Rocky, Norm has a beautiful line-up. I am addicted to the "Michelin Pilot Super Sport series." I am very old school, and my tire choice on the 87 331 stroker for serious traction, at the drag strip, is the YES, NITTO, NT555R, P275/50R15 on a 8.5 rim/wheel. For drag racing I love the extra side wall for unloading that stored up energy. On my 2014 GT I prefer Mickey Thompson 305/35R19 ET Street SS on Forgestar F14, 11" Piano Black , +54mm offset rims for NMRA events. Norm creates a excellent point in being honest with yourself as to what the application is going to be for proper tire function, street, strip, road course, etc. I go a little overboard with my tire choices, always for standing acceleration runs, so I, like Norm orient my tire choice to my driving/racing style. I think for your purposes, I would suggest following Norm's outline. P.S. for Norm. I am running the Michelin 295/40ZR19 on Forgestar 11 inch F14s on my 2014 GT for street application.
