Question on the GT500 and what i can get with these mods.

I was looking at theGT500 recently and I would like to know how much horsepower can be obtained at the wheels with the

FR1 POWER UPGRADE PACKAGE[*]40 hp increase over stock per SAE J1349 ( This is Crank I believe )[*]113 mm Cold Air Kit M-9603-SVT07[*]Muffler Kit M-5230-SVT1[*]Performance Oil Filter

That 40 horsepower is at the crank right? So if I am lucky I will see 10 horse power for 2 grand including it being installed. Since the package weights 64 minus the stock parts (which could weight less than the frpp) is it even worth it?

What does the car with this setup get in the 1/4 miles and a 0-60 time?

My next question is...

Now on to the FR SUPER PACK [*]105 hp increase over stock (605 hp vs. 500 hp), 70 lbs/ft increase in torque over stock (550 lbs/ft vs. 480 lbs/ft) using correction factor SAE J1349[*]2.3L Twin Vortices Series Eaton supercharger features 4-lobe 160 degree twist rotors[*]Includes open element cold air intake system[*]Includes Pro-Cal tool voucher with kit

The supercharger would be a nice upgrade, but it is advertised to increase horsepower by 105 at the crank if I am not mistaken. What does that come to at the wheels? Also with the Extra 105 horses crank70 torque crank, what does the car get in the 1/4 miles and a 0-60 time?
I am hoping 4.4 atleast and 12.4's on street tires.

I love the way my current mustang looks, and I would consider the GT500 if there was some power gained at the wheels.

This thread was not to bash the GT500 I love the car, it is only for educational purposes for me and whom ever decides todig upthis thread in the future.
Thanks

RE: Question on the GT500 and what i can get with these mods.

The people who put on upgraded superchargers are silly like this because the tunes are so conservative.

A GT500 with nothing but a cold air intake which is larger and an aggressive tune puts out 610 HP and equal torque, and only costs $600 (Also never heard of a single reported problem and many many GT500 owners have put them on including a guy who lives on my block)

A supercharger from Shelby is worth 700+ hp which will put down stick times, also they can register your car as supercharged (super snake package) which will make it a true collectors item, again aggressive tune here.

Anyway you're totally overblowng the effects of parsitic loss and weight. The parasitic loss is only 10% so 34 hp and 90 hp for the packages you mentioned, but why do you care about that? At the wheels you have parasitic loss from the normal HP, so your GAIN is at the same ratio as at the crank. so 20% more HP at the crank is worth 20% more HP at the wheels.

Also in terms of weight, it doesn't add up, you come off like a person who is skilled at drag racing so then you should know the rule where 100 lbs = 10 hp The heaviest supercharger upgrades I've seen for the mustang weigh 40 lbs, and that's pushing it, and including a much larger intercooler! Even that weight could be offset by a few degrees in temprature so there is no way even a cold air intake made out of a US Army artilery peice would offset the car much.

Anyway if you're interested I can give you a resonable take on the best mods for the money on a GT500. I looked it up heavily before putting the PJ mustang at the top of my list. It's a long story why that car is great.. but yeah. Hope you get your car to where you like it.

RE: Question on the GT500 and what i can get with these mods.

I know I am hijacking my own thread, but with Justins VMP tune can I
1)set the car back to a stock tune
2)takethe tune out, bring the car without the tune deviceback in for warranty work asap without having to worry about a ford tech finding out
or
3)would I have to drive the car around with the device outfor a few milesto hide anything?

I know I can disconnect the battery but it would look kind of fishy to a tech thats looking for a tune.

IfI can just bring thecar back to stock, take the tune out and put it in my housethen I think I will go the VMP packageroute. http://www.dragtimes.com/2007-Ford-M...aphs-9893.html
Justin seems like a great tuner, his v6 and GT tunes are great so I am sure this one will be also.

Also ifI was to buy an aftermarket catback X pipe lets say Borla after I received the tuner,I would not need to redo the tunes correct? I am looking for #'s of 0-60 low 4's and 1/4 in low 12's. I want the car to be reliable too, I am sure it is though.I also want to keep my Warranty for a few years :)
I will be back in a few hours
thanks for your help thus far[sm=gears.gif]

Hate to disagee but the Eaton is a POS. Notice on the Super Snakes they are running state 3 Kenne Bell kits. I was out at a dyno shoot out with about 50 GT500. Most had pulley changes and air intakes and sct tunes. Real no BS numbers, theywere in the high 500's.
Guys with KB blowers and tunes were in the 600's and 700's rear wheels and guys with KB stage 3 and headers/ cams are in the 800+ to the rear wheels. Mine puts down 816 to the rear wheel with 779Torque.

Want to have fun go to SHM and get the pulley /tune and cold air intake. Dyno around 550-570 but you will have fun.

Numers are easy to type but hard to hit on the dyno.

Super Snake motor.

I am guessing you have this s/c on your beautiful 500?

I like the look of it a LOT.
That would kill my warranty correct?

Most blowers when instaled to the conservative factory specs take over the powertrain warranty for a given car. I know there are at least 3 different blowers for the GT500 which have their own warranties. Those warranties are bulletproof aslong as you don't go above the PSI limit and have them installed by a certified installer.

I've searched this out myself before deciding on the PJ mustang again. Besides being the only mustang which has the go-ahead to carry the "boss 302" name, it has an actual engine that sits right between the GT and GT500 engine in terms of displacement. a real 302 engine. The thing is though that it's **500** lbs lighter than the gt500 in question but that's not what's important and why i'm telling you this. In looking at the GT500 when compared to my PJ I found that all 3 of the supercharger upgrades which had warranties limited you to 610hp, which was shocking for an introduction to this class of cars. The PJ on the other hand, lets you run a mind numbing 650 HP, AND has an equivalent to 75 hp on top of that at the track due to the weight which you mentioned you are concerned over too and all that comes under a warranty... 3 year or 36000 miles.

Saleen has long been fine with letting people dyno their cars and tune them from what I understand the of talking to Saleen reps so that's worth a few hp here and there. The car commes in at 400hp NA but goes to 650 with the Saleen warrantied supercharger upgrade for the PJ. All in all that's 750 HP to compare to a GT500, in all under a warranty, so Skycam can take his 850 at the crank but its your call if thats your route too and that's my point. It's just a too conservative world when it commes to fully warrantied upgrades for the 500.

hope that helps though so you aren't disapointed. Let us definitly know what you go for.
