Default unhappy shelby test drive experience question.

Hey whatup shelby owners. Got a quick question...

My dad is looking into getting a new car and is at the stage where he wants a 'fun' car. He's been looking at many high end cars and we have had positive experiences with all the test drives...BUT when I finally convinced my dad to look at a shelby (this took a huge effort on my part just to get him in the Ford dealership, b/c he has drivin my 07 stang and is not a huge fan) we were not able to test drive the car. The salesmen at both dealerships stated many owners want under 50 miles on these and we are unwilling to let you out unless you buy. So I am curious....did all of you have your first test drive on the way home or were you able to try it before buying?

I had a similar experience at a dealer. I had already signed a buyer's order and had the check in my pocket before I got behind the wheel of a GT500. Now, they would have let me drive an SGT, but the supercharged GT500's are a different story. My wife and I debated on whether we wanted to drive it or just get the paper work done and head home, but we decided to give it a whirl anyway.....like there was anything that would have changed my mind....

Oh yeah, my car had 56 miles on it when I took delivery.

they knew your dad wasn't a Mustang fan!

But they do NOT let casual shoppers test drive Shelby's.

If you show up with a briefcase full of cash I think that might help

I had no problem getting to test drive before buying, they wanted me to drive it first.

Me and my salesmen talked about the car over the phone and he knew i was serious about buying the car..... when i pulled up i barely got a chance to get out of my car and he had the keys of my gt500 and we went for a 10 mile test drive..... was pretty sweet... But i can see a dealers point though.... kinda hard to sell a car with a bunch of miles on it, then say its new, especially if the potential buyer just went for the test drive with no intention of buying anything, then tells the salesmen that he doesnt want it.... But then again, how do you buy a car without trying it first.... This is a tough one.. Most mitsubishi dealerships do the same thing though even with the evo's. they wont let u test one unless your gonna buy it...... Kinda pushes away the ones that want to just test drive cars instead of buying one.. Idk what to say though.... you can see both sides of this issue...

alright well thanks for the replies.

Like 'TimeForPain' stated you want low miles on the car but how can one buy a 50k car w/out driving it???

I guess he'll just knock it off the list which is a shame.

But what I find weird is we were able to test drive the two potential cars (boxster s, and a vette) and the salesmen had no issue with driving them.

even with what I think is a bad sales move on either ford or the dealerships part it's still on my 'to get' cars in my life!

thanks again for the replies.
