American Racing Headers on 2011 GT500 with stock exhaust?
So I've done numerous searches on the topic with no success to my specific question. The question is about loudness and drone with American Racing headers and the stock exhaust for a 2011 GT500.
I currently have Corsa performance exhaust specific to the GT500, and you can hear the sound on youtube, and there is also a video with the AR headers, X-pipe + Corsa exhaust, so I can clearly hear how loud that setup is.
My local tuners have also said that for every AR header install they have, they have removed the Corsas because they are too loud, and they have stuck the stock exhaust back on - apparently that fixes it.
So what exactly does "fix" mean?
1) Is it the sound volume much better now? Is it for example, 30% less loud?
2) Is there any drone?
Thanks!

I can't answer your drone question,
But it changes the muffler from a straight throughy design to a baffled muffler which really decreases volume and helps eliminate rasp.
I still don't understand why you would want headers with stock cats and mufflers?

I want it to be louder than I have now, without being deafening inside. I want to be able to have a conversation inside the car, and at WOT not to be too loud.
Louder is nice - too loud is not nice.
The cats would be hi-flow, not stock. As for "why would I do that" - according to the local tuner - everyone else has done that because with the corsa exhaust it's too loud.

I was saying why keeps stock exhaust and just headers.
Freeing flow in one section while restricting another.
If you want to tone it down do with a baffled style muffler like JBA or Mac. That helps keep the tone down and rasp as well.
I have stock manifolds with a cattless h and JBA 3" catback and it's hard to tell I gutted the cats

i would not recommend headers for what you are looking for. First headers are really expensive and second they will be alot louder, third they are an absolute PIA to install.
I personally think the 2011s already have a perfect sound. But if you wanted it a bit louder I would recommend some more aggressive mufflers. I have heard great things about the new Borla ATAK mufflers. I would start there and then maybe think about getting rid of the cats.
