WTH is a GTR 500?
 

Did a google search and didn't find anything. I ran up against a mostly Authentic looking 05-09 body style GTR 500 today while coming home.

It had the correct rear bumper, nose clip and hood, the trunklid had the Shelby Lettering. There were snakes on the fenders and faux gas cap. No other badges I could see.

However, it had an extremely vibrant red paintjob, narrow white stripes, the wrong rims, and it sat way up in the air like a stock GT does. And then of course the GTR500 lettering on the doors. And it was QUIET. My car is loud, but that thing didn't have an exhaust note to speak of.

Is this a special version of the GT500? Or more likely someone who just did a body package? Wish I could have gotten pics, but we were in traffic.

Probably just some guy slapped on a body kit (as you said), and some other bits and created a new mustang model for himself.

I highly doubt Ford came out with some R-spec model of the GT500 lol. But I kinda wish you got pics lol I would have enjoyed seeing this thing, oh well!

I know there is a GT500KR never heard of GTR500... I know know the Nissan Skyline is a GTR and like you, googling didn't come up with anything. I would bet its just something that somebody put together...

I also seem to be seeing a lot of "GTR500" being tied into that Night Rider remake show they did a couple years ago

that was it. The one I saw had the normal rear exhaust instead of side exhaust, and it wasn't lowered

It has a European front license plate...
The guy customized his car and slapped BS stripes on it.
No different that if I was gonna put Mach1 stripes on my Limer, it would be MY special edition.

We're wasting our time with this car.

Could be a V6, GT Or a GT500 with an aftermarket bodykit?

Probably some ricer who got a hold of a 6 and slapped some aftermarket body stuff on it. That would explain it's lack of earth-rattling exhaust note.
