Gt500 owners, need some info please
So I recently bought a 2012 Shelby rear end with performance package, from the pictures the axle looks like it is powder coated along with the brakes? ( I haven't received it yet)
Is this something Ford now does to axles? Or is this just some sort of temporary spray that will wear off?
I like to keep things clean and rust free, and I wonder what you guys thought of this. If it is powder coated, then I will spray it with some non gloss clear coat to further protect it.
If it is temporary, then I guess I have a lot more work to do to keep it looking new.
Any input will be appreciated. Here is the shot of the axle.

That coating is probably a rust inhibitor primer or a coating to control the rate of surface rust that appears.
Don't spray anything on them if they are coated with something already. Even if they aren't coated, leave them alone. Under car parts are meant to surface rust to provide natural protection for the underlying surface. Those that aren't (like exhaust) are made of galvenized material.
If the coating you add starts to peel or flake off, you only create extra surface for water, dirt, and grime to collect. That will deteriorate your part faster than if you just left it alone.
