sure to cause consternation among Mustang owners:
shootout between ZL1 & GT500:
cliffs: they gave the ZL1 a couple points over GT500 despite a big difference in drag strip times, they both completed a road race course in the same time, but how they did it won the nod for ZL1
on GT500 failure to reach 200:
they claim it will go no faster than 192
frankly, I am not surprised, the Corvette ZR1 has only a few less HP, weighs ~600 pounds less, has a much slippery body, and struggles to top 200, 202 to 205 depending on who you believe
whatever, .... it's a great time for people who like high performance vehicles

i think it's possible for it to reach 200 in the right conditions...the only places i've seen it tested is high elevation and over 100 degrees...i'm sure if Boston had amazingly straight roads and it was a perfect day it could do it...but who knows
Mustang still wins in my book

I was doing some reading on the sales numbers report today and came across a link to the GM Media site. Found this bit of information about the XL1 put out by their media people:
http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/chev..._zl1/2012.html
For the $54,995 price, including a $900 delivery fee, the ZL1 compares favorably to much more expensive cars:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Base price Horsepower Torque Magnetic Ride
Camaro ZL1 $54,995 580 556 Standard
Audi R8 GT $196,800 560 398 Standard
Maserati GranTurismo
$122,800 405 339 Not available
Mercedes SLS AMG
$185,750 565 479 Not available
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
And you thought that the ZL-1 was designed to compete with the Shelby GT500. No guess again -- according to their media PR people it was designed to go up against the high power and aftermarket imports. They don't even mention the Shelby in their stuff.

Both the Camaro and the GT500 are cool cars and great performers... but aesthetically the GT500 is is a much more pleasing car to my eye.

the GT500 was designed to one up the ZL1, the GT500 did not exist when they began developing the ZL1
the world is no longer Ford vs. GM,
it is GM vs. the world and Ford vs. the world
and it appears both GM & Ford have delivered a knockout punch
Detroit
60's muscle cars? who cares
what amazes me is the weight of the Camaro, ~4200 lbs.? that computer controlled suspender system is doing one heckuva job
