In 2002, there were 54 Extremes built - 34 coupe & 20 convertible.

BTW, if he's really looking to sell, I'd recommend using www.performanceautosport.com to help sell it. They KNOW Saleens.

I took a closer look at the registry tonight. Looks like it is highly possible your dad's S281 E in Yellow could be a 1 of 1 car His car (#47) has the Saleen optioned light bar & chrome wheels. Those are the only two "options" on that car. A lot of convertables had the speedster option (rear tonneau cover), some E owners opted for 3.55 gears over 3.27, and most E owners opted for the Tire Upgrade w/10" wide rear wheels.

1 of only 20 E Verts, and probably 1 of 1 as optioned is a pretty nice selling point!

A 3 year old E with 18,000 miles and some rock chips probably won't bring TOP value, especially from a collector looking for low mileage. But based on the 43K AVERAGE Retail price posted above, I'd say its fair. Average Retail is NOT based on Mint Condition, Low Mileage, No Rock Chips, etc.....

Good Luck

Well, my dad has told me he needs to sell it in the next 10 days or so.. he still owes a little on it, and he's buying a house but the loan he has is contingent on the saleen debt being gone. He's in a pinch and the car needs to go. Perhaps someone could purchase the car, fix the paint and make a few thousand dollars profit off of this car?
The $38,000 is a o.b.o. price, and as I'm negotiating the price for my dad, I can tell you it has a lot of room in the "offer" part because he needs the car to sell!

Thanks for all of the info you shared on it! I really wish I could buy it.. even though I'm a girl, and girls stereotypically don't fall for cars like this I *really* like driving it the few times that I've been able to.

You should buy it. A girl driving a S281-E would be HOT [sm=Awwww.gif]

Not sure what you are referring to, and assume you meant S281 (not 381). Final production for 2005 was 1345 Saleens, and there were zero E's produced.

Just wanted to add another point to the numbering issue. The E cars were numbered differently then the N/A and SC cars, so while I have S281E 02-0012E, someone else has S281 02-0012. Also, the number does not indicate build order. My car was preordered before production on the E's began, hence the number 12, but was not produced until almost the end of 2002 production run (Jul 02), and then didn't actually sell until Jan 03.

There are no indications on the outside of the car that it is an E car, other then the hood, wing and center exhaust. It will say it on the dash plaque though and the plague under the hood.

It is also true that there were 54 E cars produced in 2002, but how many actually remain on the road is a mystery.

Soaxeman, I'm not sure if my Saleen book matches yours, mine say 02-0047E has the Spdstr, Black Top options. In yellow and a speedster I highly doubt this car is a 1 of 1. Liz at Saleen would be the best source for that information though.

I'll be a son of a .....! I stand corrected. I failed to look at the END of the 2002 figs in the registry So the car does not have Chrome wheels, and no light bar. Still very possible to be a 1 of 1 though. But you are correct, Liz would be the best bet to verify that.

Just a little inquiry:
So, according to the Bowling book, this car has no light bar and the non-polished/brushed rims?
(that probably means no 10" rw upgrade if the wheels aren't chrome)

Seller should make sure dad still has speedster cover....if not, that would make it a bare bones E (no speedster, light bar or chrome wheels). Still, sounds like one bad @ss ride....
