foglight install for 99-04 Saleen

Well as we all know, the GT Mustang came with foglights but were removed by Saleen because of the replacement front end :( I picked up some PIAA 1000XT Platinums ;) and will install them in the two inner trapazoid holes of facia this week. I figured out some things that may be useful for others that would like to install some too.

1. First is the on/off switch below the cd player. This switch will probably work as it appears only the end has been replaced during
the Saleen upgrade. Try the switch before you buy a new one from Ford for $38.00

2. Next, is the missing "relay 5" in your owners guide book. In the power distribution box (located next to the drivers strut tower under the hood) you will notice a row of relays and an open 5 pin slot (center slot is empty). This is location for the relay that sends power to the foglights (you will see original Ford wiring that is tied up underneath by Saleen during their work). This is a STANDARD relay available at local electronic supply place (Radio Shack etc....) If you pull the starter relay (next to this slot) you can bring it to store and can match it up. Even though only a 20 amp fuse is existing, I recommend a 30 amp relay, as contacts are better for foglights. You will now have power to your foglight wiring, whenever the parking or headlights are on along with the switch of course. NOTE: You will notice that the foglights will NOT oporate if you turn on the high beams, but this can be corrected (see part 3)

3. On the opposite end of this row "relay 1" is the "foglamp interrupter relay". This is triggered by high beam switch of headlights. If you remove this relay and jump pin slots 3 and 4 (located at red arrows) you will RETAIN high beam and foglight function simultaneously. If you look closely at this relay, you will see wiring diagram and numbers of pins

I am aware that I have no pics, but I will post later this week after I get the foglights and Projector HID package lights from Stangmods installed

Great information, I look forward to seeing those pictures. Did you get the foglights from Stangmads as well?

I ordered a pair of PIAA 1000XT's from autoanything.com for $215.45 (includes shipping). I did alot of looking around and by far The best price I could find

My second choice was 004XT but the lens is plastic and I like the durability of a glass lens.

The relay (30amp) from the Ford Dealer was $13.00. Everything worked as you instructions stated on my 2003 Saleed.

Thanks,
Garry

your welcome. That is cool that Ford does not overcharge for the relay. Things like that can get sometimes be expensive through dealer. Did you try to use the "dummy" switch that was installed by Saleen? BTW, I got my 1000XT fogs installed and will post pics later tonight. Came out AWESOME (if I do say so myself :) )

Came out pretty freakin' sweet, I think. I had to make new brackets as the bumper is about 3 1/2" above the center line of the hole in facia.

Couple of technical notes here: The Ford foglight wiring is tied up under the headlight and the light brown wire with the
orange stripe is "+" side. In theory, this shouldn't make a difference as this is DC current, but I like things correct.

I decided to make a couple of plastic lenses to go in front of the foglights to protect from road debris :). My '85 GT foglights were in need of replacement several times [:@] due to junk on road and settled on smoked lenses to hide a little better. I have done some testing and is easily 50% loss of light due to these lenses, so off they come :(. I have made some clear lenses, so on they go! I am putting the Stangmods Projector and 8000K HID kit in tomorrow and looking forward to even more light and even cooler look.

Links are dead for pics, unfortunatley :(

Here is some updated info per requrests on mounting. I made some new brackets out of copper pipe (I am a plumber) I cut a 1' piece and flattened out. I then bent two times to form the image below and did NO modifications to the facia.

Thank you, the fog lights are going to have to go on the "to do" list.
