is it a real saleen?
Nothing wrong with making a car look good, but I think its cheezy to pass off a car as something it isnt, like when people get saleen stickers and put it all over their ride, that just is not tight. Hey put saleen parts all over it if you want, but dont try to make people think its real. Thats my opinion anyways.</P>

sell the 88 stang and buy a real 88 saleen. you can buy them for as little as $10,000 in good condition. the only reason i say this is because your taking a non v8 stang and trying to turn it into a v8 car. First plan on spending alot of money and time just to pull that off. Its not just a question of dropping a v8 in the car. You are also going to have to swap the rear end and tranny out for ones that are suited to handle a v8. Your looking at spending up to a couple thousand plus the cost of a v8. If you do get that far with it then you actually have to look at the cost of making it a into a "saleen". Theres more to a saleen than just stickers and a body kit.(read my earlier reply under this post). Alot of these parts arent even manufactured anymore. The only way to buy them is to find them N.O.S. or used. When you do find them look at paying mega $$$ cause these people know what the have and it aint goin cheap! The most expensive part of building an early model saleen is the suspension and extra stiffening mods to the frame you can look at spending a cool 7gs just to get the car set up with the careera suspension (which has to be ordered directly from carrera at there company at Charlotte Motor Speedway in N.C.)subframe connectors and strut tower bars. The engine in foxbody saleens was untouched unless it was an SC or SSC. So no caost there. Then you also need to look at wheels. The 88 saleen came with a 5 spoke cookie cutter looking wheel that i believe American Racing manufactured for them. You can expect to pay $1,200-$2,000 for a set of these in fair to excellent condition. Then theres your graphics. These are no longer manufactured. I know a man who has a couple of sets of these N.O.S. and wants $175 for each side set so thats $350 for the side stripe graphics. Then you need a deck lid sticker($25) and a window banner ($30). Now comes the interior. The 88 saleen had special door panel inserts i doubt youll ever find these. You can buy the gauge panel background N.O.S. i have no idea what this will cost either. Then theres the shift ****, seats(good luck), and floormats which can also be purchased. You will be missing your saleen id number on your front right bumper because they dont make these and your center console plaque which is kinda like a saleen vin tag. They also put id tags on the firewall and rear declid. Missing these items is a dead givaway the car is fake. Finally your gonna be looking at spending around $2,000 for the saleen ground effects and spoilerplus the cost of a good paint job. So all in all your looking at spending more than $20,000 to convert your car. Thats piontless when you could sell it and buy a real one for less than that. Hell i only paid $21,000 for my 93 saleen that was like brand new with only 4,200 miles on it. If your interested in getting a real foxbody saleen go to www.performanceautosport.com and look around. I know the guyMark Lamaskinwho owns this company and he can locate any saleen you want. Next to Steve Saleen mark is one of the most knowledgeable people on these cars. Whatever you do i wish you the best of luck.

is it a real saleen?
ha ha this is kinda off the topic but i worked at adealership and right before i left a 2003 mustang came in. this kid brought it in for a trade-in. he told them that it was a saleen so before they checked they gave him the money.but the car was really a gt lol so the kid got away with it cause it was too late. the funny part is that the car looked completly like a gt,all it had were the stickers of a saleen and the wing lol it was great. <edited><editID>stang-a-tang</editID><editDate>37898.7927083333</editDate></edited>

to 88SaleenStang I say make it look like a Saleen, but custom tailor certain aspects to your liking. A different hood, different rims, different wing, etc. A Saleen kit with a different wing and side exhaust could be unique and cool, just as an example.
