HID Headlamp replacement
Hi, guys! I've got an HID headlamp out. Couldn't find a replacementby doinga quick online search. Does anybody have an idea how much that's going to cost, and is it possible that it's under warranty? The car is less than a year old.
Thanks!
Thanks!

RE: HID Headlamp replacement
could be just a blown bulb, although they are desisgned to last 10 times longer than a normal bulb they do fail, or could be a loose connection? if it is the bulb just make sure you replace it with the correct one as there are 3 or 4 different ones on the market with different brightness

Thanks, it ocurred to me later to check the connections - duh! I will do that today. If that's not it,I have a good dealer, so I'll check with them first, and then call the techline if needed. Thanks for the help!

RE: HID Headlamp replacement
check the two fuses on the passenger side fender, also check the two small bosch relays right next to the two fuses. if you are in doubt, you can just swap the two relays and check to see if the problem now changes to the other side.........good luck

RE: HID Headlamp replacement
Thanks for the advice, but you-guys are giving me a little too much credit for knowing where all those parts are. So, I looked in the passenger compartment floor area and found the panel where they used to put the fuses back in '89, but didn't see anything that looked familiar. So, I popped the hood and found the little black box with what looks like the fuses and relays. I pulled out a relay (?) -- it's the thing circled on the photo -- and put it back in. Then I got terrified to do anything else. So, I popped in at my dealer and asked them which of those little square thingies would be the one for the passenger headlight, and they said that there is only one that controls both headlights. ???? I explained to them it was the HID system and they said it didn't matter, that there was still only one, which is different from what you-guys say (I think I trust you a lot more). But to make a long story short, when he looked at the lights, they were both working. So I thought my re-seating the relay did the trick. However, it didn't really work because when I turn the lights on, the same passenger side headlamp only works about half of the time.
I thought I would try switching the two relays (if there really are two), but I have no idea which ones to switch. The picture was taken from the passenger side looking straight down (the right of the picture is the front of the car).
Is the mechanic sadly mistaken?Which relays should I switch?
Thanks!

RE: HID Headlamp replacement
I don't know how the Saleen kit works, but the relays would be wired by the ballasts somewhere and not actually in the fuse box. Check your wiring, it might be loose. I have the same problem with mine (although I have an aftermarket HID kit). Try wiggling all the wires, when I did that my one bad side would go on and off. I think I have mine fixed now.
But if you did say it worked while at the dealership, it's def. not the bulb.

I would go with a loose connection somewhere going on the intermittant working/not working, I know a Saleen owner here in England who had the exact same problem

RE: HID Headlamp replacement
Hey NC - since it appears you are working towards becoming a DIY'er, here is a link to the Saleen HID installation manual. Use this to determine all the connection/splice points for the kit and check all of those for your gremlin. Set aside an hour or two to trace it all down, and of course a few beers and I'm sure you will soon become our resident HID expert
